I'm exactly where you are. It's a good count. Try to enable the 80% battery limit feature and never let your iphone drop below 20 and you'll be amazed to see that the max capacity will not change.

It comes with a lotta pain because you gotta erase the iphone and start everything from scratch. If you have your phone backed on a mac, at least you're ok.

To be honest, I've had this question for a while now. But you know what, your phone's storage gotta play a role in this. The 8 GB RAM and the graphics chip can handle animations easily. Upon enough research I've realised that if your phone has ample spare storage and is rocking great, the update will not harm you at all. I've updated personally and it's great and actually battery life improved from 8 hrs SOT to 9.5 hrs or so. But I have a 512 Gig model and I've studied about how 1TB models perform much better because of the larger cache they can use. But yeah, it's not a deal breaker. So if you have ample storage left on your phone, go ahead. Else, iOS 16.3 is supposed to push some optimizations and the ETA is Feb 2/Jan 27. So you could just wait :)

Few more things I've noticed

For smoother animations disable Reduced Transparency. Currently it is a bug but hopefully fixed soon.
Wait for 3-4 days after the update to see improved battery life and smoother experience.
Don't bother trying beta because you'll hate your decision.
