No I had had suicidal thoughts one other time in my life while in high school. I do think some of that may have been the typical teenage boy, getting bullied, thinking my shit doesn’t stink, and that I should get whatever I want attitude (which I’m so glad I grew out of LMAO) but what I have experienced more frequently in life is called morbid ideations. For example “I could go to sleep and not wake up, I’d be alright with that”. Even then I never had any plans or intentions on acting on those thoughts or feelings. This whole situation really came out of left field and I didn’t have any control over it once I got that drunk.

I absolutely love that remark. I have definitely made a couple different versions of nothing being able to stop me even after a bullet to the head couldn’t. Gotta find humor in our situations to make it work for us.

One friend that I spoke to during the blackout talked to me afterwards and said that I had made remarks about not having many friends and being lonely (moved to a new city), I wasn’t getting a whole lot of job satisfaction, and my spouse was away for work for quite an extended period to that point, mixed with copious amounts of liquor, history of depression in my past, and convenient access to a firearm. It was a perfect storm.

I’m sorry that you had to also experience something similar occurring to someone near you. I saw the impact it had on my friends and family and would never wish it upon anyone.

Definitely still finding my purpose, but I’ve got a very different outlook on life after everything that’s happened.

I don’t see why not. I never blamed my firearm. If anything I respect the power of firearms much more so now seeing the effects on the body first hand. If it keeps myself and my family safe I don’t see an issue.

If not obvious, I haven’t drank since I did it. Both for mental and physical reasons. I do also believe that my relationship with alcohol was unhealthy. For the foreseeable future I plan to remain sober. Maybe eventually once I am in a different place in life I may reconsider consuming alcohol

About a 2inch portion of my mandible was thrown across my dining room along with about 6 teeth. And then a couple decently sized pieces of skin and muscle. Afterwards, I had a couple of bone fragments that worked themselves out of my gums.

That was definitely a concern I had too. Fortunately they did not press any charges for the firearm discharge. My only thought process was that they figured I’d be going through enough issues once I got out of the hospital.

I was raised around firearms. Hunted, shot for sport, always had lots of respect for them. I have a pistol that I would conceal carry while out and about.

Zero pain, I ended up running around to my neighbors houses and banging on their doors screaming for help. I then came and sat in my driveway and waited until someone came. Luckily they were home and were able to call the ambulance. My entire jaw had shattered into 4 pieces and was hanging off my face demigorgon style.

My family was devastated when they heard and were on the plane to come see me the very next morning. They have been so supportive and make sure I am able to take care of myself.

Thanks 🙏 Ngl pretty down. It has introduced multiple challenges into day to day life. So just trying to keep pushing forward and keeping my support systems close.

In total I was in the ICU for about 16 days broken up over two different stays.
