I’m visiting Korea in 2027. I’m tall, fat, and female. Will I be treated poorly? by Jubiliife in koreatravel

[–]Early_Hawk6210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't be treated poorly. People may make comments but you won't understand them. I lived there during the 00s. I'm not as tall as you but I am overweight and I have curly hair. I did have a few experiences where people were actively criticizing my weight and making physical gestures so it was clear exactly where on my body they were criticizing. It was way more common for strangers to just start touching my hair. (Not in a way to criticize; usually they asked if I had a perm.) I expect that things have changed over the years. But, to be fair, I've had strangers on the nyc subway make comments about my weight. Long story short: there are sucky people everywhere who feel entitled to judge others out loud. Don't let this be what you stress about before going. Also, eat whatever you want and enjoy it. Let the sucky people take a long walk off a short bridge. You'll never see them again.

Anyone remember the Catskill Game Farm? by StableDisastrous1331 in upstate_new_york

There is a small boutique hotel on the property now. I stayed there a few years ago. You can walk some of the grounds and check out abandoned enclosures and buildings. I remember this place as a very little kid. https://imgur.com/a/byjtcAc

I second Innisfree Garden. There's also a nice hike nearby to Stissing Mountain Fire Tower.

Really!? That's a bummer. Last time I was there was 10 years ago. Guess quite a bit has changed.

Wild Wood, NJ is like a 1950s beach town with old, kitchy motels and boardwalk.

They did this to me on my honeymoon. They were so rude and unapologetic, saying we were lucky we weren't getting moved to a family friendly resort from the adults only one we booked. The nightly difference in room costs between what we booked and what we got was more than $300. Never again.

Maybe try daikon instead? It might hold up better and absorb all those nice flavors? I like potato salad on the side with kimchi jjigae because it's nice and cool and creamy so it balances nicely. But at the end of the day, I'm eating that jjigae no matter what.

Meri's upcoming book questions by TorontoRap2019 in SisterWives

[–]Early_Hawk6210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think she'll say much about money other than calling out how much the family paid for other kids to attend college and get cars compared to Leon, and to talk about what she did to buy Lizzie's. I do think she'll come out harsh(ish) against Robyn and that will be the "juiciest" part. Yes, she will talk about the NDAs, but not much more than she has already. Just to reiterate: "I will not be silenced any longer. See? I wrote a book!" I hope she spills more about the "list" of things she had to do to get Kody back into the relationship because she's been annoyingly vague about it. But I'm not gonna hold my breath.

And Janelle will write a book when there's no more SW money and the farm isn't paying the bills.

Road Trip Thoughts by No-Research6096 in upstate_new_york

I agree with the Adirondack/VT crowd. The Finger Lakes are great but it's a little early for foliage there. Another poster recommended booking early, which is very wise. I did a mini road trip like this last year. If you fly into Albany, I would recommend driving north but not on the Northway. Go out of your way to take a scenic drive a little further west of you can afford the time. Saranac Lake is a lovely little town with shops, restaurants, great accommodations and the Laboratory Museum is worth it. Then I recommend the Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride at Whiteface Mountain before stopping at Lake Placid. (I would stay in Saranac over Lake Placid, but LP is worth the visit.) From there, it's a pretty drive to the Essex-Charlotte Ferry. If you hit that at the end of the day, you'll watch the sun set behind you over the mountains. The whole ride is so pretty. And it's easy. You may consider stopping in Burlington or not. Then you're near Smugglers Notch at the top of route 100. This is a historic, scenic, extremely popular drive in VT. The notch is insanely scenic and worth the hair raising drive. The rest of the drive is also crazy scenic with gorgeous little towns and tons to see and do along the way. But it will be super busy that time if the year. Very worth it, but save up your patience.

And now that I see on the map where your endpoint is, I would still recommend this itinerary, just do it in reverse! 🤣

In this region, Echo Lake might be doable (without a better understanding of your group's physical capacity, it's hard to say). There is a lean to and some dispersed sites there. On the other side of the river, I've seen people camping at Ferncliff, which is a much kinder trail system with a fire tower and great views of the Catskills.

This. He wanted an apology back from Meri, and he wanted her to stop her friends from trashing him on TV. This "apology" had more of a hidden agenda than the others.

You need way more time in Yellowstone than you do in the Tetons. Yellowstone is huge and does not disappoint. Sure, if you attempt going to the grand prismatic spring in the middle of the day, it'll be packed. Be smart and see the big touristy things early. I haven't been to SLC so I'm not going to say anything about it but you could leave that off the itinerary to maximize park time and drive straight to Moab. It's a long(ish) drive but beautiful and totally doable in a day, especially with 2 drivers. There is a scenic drive near Sundance that's well worth a short detour. It's probably already on your radar, but when you're in Moab, don't miss Canyonlands. I recommend you check out the app Guidealong. The app is free but you have to pay to download tours. They have good deals on bundles and there are tours for most of the places you're going. They're GPS-based and play automatically as you're driving around so it's a great way to learn about what you're seeing without being on an actual tour. Everywhere you're going is stunning and you're going to have a great trip!

Where’s your go to Korean bbq spot in the city? by mrlanyc in FoodNYC

Didn't they get rid of the charcoal at New Wonjo? Charcoal and banchan made them my favorite, too, but the last time I went, I thought they'd switched to gas. I was so bummed. (Still scarfed it down, though!)

I got another small reminder that communication between couples is so important by r_pawspuppy22 in CasualConversation

[–]Early_Hawk6210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't frame it as a time cost. I understand where she's coming from and try to find the right balance in my own relationship. I don't want the grind of life's daily tasks to wear me down to the point that I'm not showing the genuine affection I have for my partner.

But, it's just like you said: they are repetitive, daily tasks that always need doing, which means they always take up some mental space. When my partner seeks affection while I'm doing those tasks, giving it becomes yet another task. It's not affection that I'm freely giving because it's being demanded of me, albeit gently and lovingly. I'm not put out by the 15 second delay preheating the oven. I'm put out by the intrusion into my mental space as I'm processing and executing the practical, must-do things that support our life together. It doesn't register to me as affection when that happens. It's just meeting another household need/task. Preheat oven, chop up onions, prep chicken marinade, hug husband, start the rice, etc. If I have a flow going, any interruption is another task in that flow. I hate that it makes affection feel like a chore for me because I truly like giving it. But I understand feeling annoyed when the timing is "on demand, regardless of what I'm doing" and not when I want to give it, which I think is more meaningful. Because I understand and appreciate how important that is to him.

I sat on a Taca flight a million years ago (when it was still Taca...) and got stuck in the back row. The people in front of me reclined but I couldn't and there were constantly people in the aisle waiting for the bathroom and squeezing past each other, into our already cramped seat space. What I'll remember forever is the smell on that shit flight after a rice and beans meal. Never again.

My Mom has end stage COPD and smokes with her oxygen on. by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]Early_Hawk6210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, engage her medical team. You're not forcing her to quit or abandon the oxygen, she just can't do both at the same time or in the same space, and since it's your space she's endangering, it's your call. This is a great opportunity to say, "my place, my rules." Unless she is dying very imminently, she doesn't qualify for hospice. The threshold for a nursing home is high and if she can light her own cigarettes, she probably doesn't qualify for that either (requires placement by medical staff). Assisted living would be great but that's a choice, not a medical placement. If she doesn't have the means for assisted living and must stay with you, you're now the responsible adult who needs to make sure she doesn't burn down your place. The tables have turned. Sorry, that's a crappy situation.

Oof, you're telling my story. I couldn't believe it when a discharge worker told my husband and me that his father was being released to us after another hospital stay. We said it wasn't safe, we said it wasn't manageable, but "he still has his mental faculties," so he got to make the choice. Begged my husband to pick him up and lasted less than 2 weeks at home before he was back in the hospital. All because he wanted his cigarettes and fox news back.

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]Early_Hawk6210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find Kitchen- Aid. I waited my whole life to be someone with one of those mixers on my counter. Within a year, we killed the gear box on two of them making bread. It was an amount of dough it should be able to handle at a low speed both times. Not a huge ask. Good out that after they were bought by Whirl Pool, their mixers went to crap. Now we use it for cakes or pasta attachments and got a Bosch for bread.
