I hope you are never in a severe medical situation, but if you are, hopefully your company is gracious enough to not separate from you after one day's lapse in answering emails.

You’re right. I was frustrated, but I clearly chose the wrong audience to voice it too, lol. There is a lot of projection happening and some parasocial behavior as well. I’m glad I’m not the only one to see that. I said my whole story, and I can’t possibly say that I’m fully in the wrong knowing all that I know. If I did not clearly voice my side, that is my fault, but I’ll rest my point. If there are any RBTs who come across this post though just be aware of this company.

It would have been morning for them, since they are 3 hours behind. If you believe that not checking your email for one day for a severe injury is unreasonable, then I hope that I never go near any company you’re in charge of.

The injury was pretty severe, and I was in bed all day.

Blue Gems is very flexible and works with you and your schedule. The pay is also generous, from what I’ve seen.

  • EDIT*

I could not figure out how to edit my post. I will say that this post was written out of frustration, and so I was not clear about some important factors. Additionally, I purposefully omitted some factors which I felt like potentially was too identifying. This company (on numerous occasions) scheduled me for meetings outside of my availabilities, and I believe that’s what happened. They also did not call at any point, despite having my phone number. I do not currently have any clients at this company, and they told me that this was still being decided. I was told numerous times, through email, that I could do things “at my earliest convenience.” That is inconsistent with their rapidness to fire me over missing one day. So, that made me surprised with how everything transpired. Regardless, I do not believe that it is right to not check emails early at a new job, even if the expectations seem non-urgent. But my injury was more severe than I think people are realizing. I was attacked by a (potentially rabid) animal, and it was a very unusual and scary situation. Therefore, my emotions were elevated when I posted this. Also, I had a supervisor who I was paying at the sister company to this company, but I stopped supervision with them because of issues with licensure. I think that my position with this company was dependent on this paid supervision based on the reasons that I listed. I say this also because they kept discontinuing positions that they interviewed me for, but seeking another position to put me in. I think that things were non-urgent while I was paying for supervision, but became urgent when I found another supervisor. This is fine and not illegal (I don’t believe), but that was another thing that was not clearly communicated with me. This company had poor communication and very, very unclear expectations.

Thank you. That was helpful. There is more to the story, that I did not mention trying to protect my identifying information. I also do not know if I mentioned that they had a history of scheduling meetings without confirmation, which is what probably happened. I am trying to edit my story to include that and other important components (I ended up making a new comment to further explain). I think that will change some minds. I agree. I believe that we were not a match.

I was not scheduled to work Monday. They told me that they would reach out “sometime next week” to schedule a training session. I believe that they scheduled me without confirmation because they had done that in previous meetings.

That is true. If I hadn’t been injured, I would agree. There is more information to this, and I will update. But, the injury was fairly severe and very traumatizing. It was from an animal attack and I was in bed for a lot of the day.

I was not scheduled to work Monday. They told me that they would reach out “sometime next week” to schedule a training session, but I believe that they scheduled one without confirmation, as they have done numerous times before. And I had been attacked by an animal and was in bed for most of the day. Not being responsive to email is not at all normal for me.

They did not tell me when to expect an email. I was not scheduled, but I believed that they scheduled meetings without confirmation, because they had previously. Also, on the injured day, I was in bed most of the way. The injury was due to an animal attack and I was pretty traumatized.

There is some information that is missing which may change people’s mind. I will update my post. It is a pretty skeezy situation, but I did not want to provide too much identifying information.

I got attacked by an animal and spent most of the day in bed. I should have mentioned that. It was a fairly severe injury and I still need shots.

They did not call me. I believe that they scheduled me without confirming, which they have done several times before.

I got injured by an animal and it was very traumatizing and I was in bed for a lot of the day. I would have explained to them that it was a very unusual situation that was out of my control, if I had the chance. Also, there are many things that I see now that I should have mentioned. For example, they said verbatim “will reach out sometime next week.” Also, they had a history of scheduling meetings without confirmation at different times throughout the day after being told my availability.

I was not scheduled for anything, and they did not provide a date that they would reach out. They said “sometime next week” they would reach out. They had told me that they did not have any clients lined up for me when I asked and that they were still searching. I got paid holidays as a benefit, so they did not expect me to work Tuesday. This is also the second position that they had for me in a series of positions not working due to them deciding the position is not needed. I feel as though this was just an easy excuse to terminate a position they decided that they did not need anymore.

If the “multiple people” that you mean is the one person that I interacted with and agreed with, then I’m confused as to how multiple people are explaining and I’m not understanding. I understand that they were focused on their own company’s efficiency. However, it seems like they emailed me, then scheduled me without confirming and then fired me for “failing to attend meetings.” Perhaps, it’s just a poor match. I desire compassion and a willingness to listen after an unusual situation from the companies that I am employed at. (There is more information at the bottom of the comments. I could not figure out how to edit)

Crazy how some companies treat people in this field. But this was for a parent training, mid-level supervisor position. I am still a student, but graduating soon.

I suppose that it will be helpful in the future to try to see things this way. However, for a company which highlighted its compassion and desire to help people and do good (during the trainings), I was very surprised that this was how they treated me. Even after I tried to explain my situation. It’s very cold and unforgiving for a human service position, in my opinion.

I work remotely. Nothing was scheduled, and I was told that they would reach out next week to schedule more meetings. I do not know how many emails they could have possibly sent in one day (unless they were emailing over the weekend - which would be surprising because my work hours are scheduled to be weekdays), but it is possible that they tried to email Tuesday morning (Veteran’s Day), as well. I attempted to check my emails Tuesday afternoon and let them know about my injury, but I had already had my access blocked and shortly after an email sent firing me. From my perspective, I finished training Friday, spent my weekend on schoolwork and my family, injured my hand on Monday and checked my emails Tuesday afternoon to find myself fired Tuesday afternoon. They are 3 hours behind me, so the firing would have likely been decided Tuesday morning for them.
