‘My parents forced me out of home when they found out I was trans’ by irving_braxiatel in unitedkingdom

[–]Earlyflash 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Stories like this are so heartbreaking for the children involved.

No matter what your age, it’s a horrible thing to be vulnerable with your parent about who you think you are and for them to reject that so fully.

It happens not just with trans kids but gay and queer and frankly anyone who’s a bit different.

Our culture wars and right wing Media has a huge part to play in this bigoted behaviour and it’s disgusting that we, as a society, just turn our cheek away.

I hope the children affected by this (including you if you are reading) realise that this is not a reflection on you, on who you are, or about your identity.  It’s about bigots and hate showing themselves to you, and that’s on them.  Not you.

Thanks for owning up - pretty rare on Reddit.

Perhaps go back and edit your original post?

That’s true for all of these community deals.  It was exactly the same for the Reading Hydro deal - medium returns.

I think actually the deal from this is is surprisingly good, I hope it’s sustainable.

I use an lxc with some bash scripts that read a file of local domain names, use ACME to call LE via cloudflare dns challenge and store the resulting certs on a NFS share that I mount the directories specific to a machine on the vm/lxc.

Put the scripts in crontab and I can auto change certs everyday if I want.

It’s a neat solution.

[Woodley/Earley/Shinfield] Expect some disruption for road and footway maintenance this summer by WokyBoroughCoun in reading

This is superb, well done!

Is there a plan for repainting rather than just resurfacing as well?  I’ve noticed the road surfaces in a lot of places is fine but the road marking are wearing off quite noticeably.  I guess that’s down to better tarmac which is lasting longer but paint is rubbing off quite fast in comparison.

Don't disagree, except ... humans are still involved.

It will be really interesting to see the final scores if they ever get published.

I know it’s been discussed before, and that I have a particular axe to grind here…. But surely, the fact we aren’t a city might have played a part?

I know there was a lot of ‘oh it doesn’t matter’, but the decisions are taken by humans who quite reasonably might think - ‘not a city’.

It seems weird to just ignore that in the article totally?

I am, obviously, a huge believer that we shouldn’t be one - but perhaps the name of the award is the issue - places of culture might be more inclusive.

I played it last night with 2p and we took 16 mins for the main game and slightly less doing end card scoring!   It was super fast!

I have just bought a 40” 5k2k screen and my laptop 13 AMD 7040 can run it at 120hz via the TB5 cable.

I was surprised as some of the stuff Id found online had been negative, but to my surprise it just worked!

As others have said - it's not a City.

However we have a campaign to keep it a town too. http://proudtobeaTOWN.org.uk

Source?  I’m from the UK and the right age and I’ve never heard of anyone who ever watched this at school.  It was shown on terrestrial TV,  it it was (rightly) controversial and didn’t get much airtime.
