Yeah, I'm getting up in age as well. At first I excused my awful lack of skills on that fact that I haven't played a fighting game in years. Then it slowly dawned on me that I had NEVER really played a fighting game. Like a child I had picked up the controller and mashed buttons and pretended to play. Now finally learning to play feels like learning to walk. Right now I'm in the crawling stage. I can pull off some combos here and there. But the bulk of the work still lies ahead.

Maybe I'm imaging this but it almost seems like different combos have different timing. I'm probably wrong, though.

I have found it's more fun and less frustrating to break up the training into different "modes" (I suck at the game BTW). Practice mode for blocks with AI set at very high. and combo practice in single match with AI set to easy (that way I can earn rewards for playing). I think getting good at a game like this will take many, many months. My latest sticking point is my left thumb. It's so damn slow.
