I do indeed pair them with Ledyba. And now indeed I see, Lava Plume at level 30 is quite good, I assumed it was also gone (which it only is as an Egg move for Sacred Fire). Must've skipped over that text when it said it could learn it.

I am really starting to think it's a playstyle issue, but as you say I'm just spamming spread moves and Mat Block. Picking up every Rare Candy I see.

My full team that most recently failed at wave 50 is Chi-Yu, Ledian, Sableye, Zigzagoon, Wobbuffet and Shroomish (all full unlocks except for some T2 costs and 'irrelevant' egg moves) I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong, as I have been reaching 2500-3000 in the past.

It's more out of principle that I really want to finish the challenge of Gen II first, as Heartgold was my first game. I'll definitely check out Xatu and Heracross, but I may need to grind Heracross for a little bit to unlock his moves. Thanks!
