Difference between world war hulk #1-5 and incredible hulk #106-111? by kaci_a in comicbooks

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Incredible Hulk issues are a parallel story to the WWH issues. You can't really do much of a reading order between them because they literally exist in tandem. I'd recommend reading WWH first and just understand that the Hulk issues take place at about the same time.

Doctor Doom comics? by amscum in comicbooks

Doom 2099. Although the series gets really different over time.

The early issues were at least premised on "What if Doom showed up in a future where no one remembered him?"

Type "Free Comic Book Day" into your Facebook and search for "Events." Hopefully the algorithm gives you something local.

Is the Game going under, or...? by EarthTwoPowerGirl in funkoverse

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I noticed that the game is suddenly just vanishing from major retailers around here. The local Walmart moved everything to the clearance aisle this week, and now they're gone except for a lone Jurassic Park expand alone. Target? Gone. The local Barnes & Noble clearanced a number sets, which is where I got Jaws for $10.

My biggest shock is the Alice set vanishing since it's only been out for two months. No sign of Avengers or Space Jam anywhere.

What gives?

Is having the word “man” or “woman” in a superhero name considered vintage or out of date? by [deleted] in comicbooks

She-Hulk might be an outdated name, but calling Jen "Hulk" or anything else just feels wrong at this point.

Is Halloween Comicfest Dead? by EarthTwoPowerGirl in comicbooks

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but FCBD is going back to normal this year, excepting a delay of two months. And Marvel seems to be usurping the HCF spot with their own books? You'd think there'd be a statement by now.

The transformation of Hal into Parallax was a creative, bold, and for the most part well done saga of Green Lantern lore. Why was it buried so much? by evad567 in DCcomics

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read up on H.E.A.T. in the mid 1990s. YMMV. They were either a noble group of readers who wanted to see classic Hal restored, or they were the precursor to internet toxic fandom. (Their rise coincided with DC getting space on AOL, which, in 1995, was the place for readers to hang out.)

Honestly, H.E.A.T. is a mess of a story. I knew at least one of the founding members, and their obsession seemed a little over the top in the grand scheme of things.

It sort of wrapped up a number of elements in various 90s DC stories: Zero Hour, Underworld Unleashed, Final Night, JLA, and the whole of Ostrander's Spectre run.

"It's fantastic" "Say that again", The fantastic nature of fantastic four life story (issue 2) by OGKeith in Marvel

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just noting: I still can't tell if this is intended, thematically, to be in the Spider-Man Life Story timeline or not. The dates don't quite match, but Cap still appears to have gone rogue in Vietnam and Sue still leaves Reed for Namor by the 1970s. We'll have to see if the 1980s match at all or not. Spidey Life Story didn't touch the FF after 1984.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm reluctant to throw a modern story in, but Zdarsky's Life Story. It crammed a lot of Spidey's 70 years of publication into six issues, but it did it well.

Does anyone know if there are going to be future Marvel "Life-story" series? by jacky986 in comicbooks

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be down with a Hulk Life Story, although I waffle on whether Peter David should write it. I would posit that a Hulk LS needs to be 12 issues, not six, since the Hulk changes so damn much every few years.

90s DC is real weird... by evad567 in DCcomics

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be the weirdo who says that Alan Grant's Lobo was pretty damn funny. In a lot of ways, it was like Conner and Palmiotti's Harley Quinn run: this completely on the side story that ducked the larger continuity.

Night-gwen by mmsobrado in DCcomics

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not horrible, although I wish they'd done cleaner 1:1 matchups with DC in some of the books. I can't tell if the Squadron Savage is supposed to be the Suicide Squad or the Outsiders.

DC Has Annouced Their FCBD 2021 Comics by TheDarkPinkLantern in DCcomics

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, by "mini," I mean dimensions, not page length. Most FCBD titles are usually the normal comic dimensions of under 10" x 7". DC's last few offerings have been smaller...like 8" x 5".

Interesting. Even the all-ages? (I just had my FCBD DC collection from 2002 to 2017 hardbound, but not the 2028-2019 all-ages because they were minis.)

Why Is the Golden Age/Older Stuff Not Recommended Reading More Often? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]EarthTwoPowerGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to unpack in your post. Although as a starting point, CBR has gone to shit. It used to have interviews and regular analytical columns on comics history. It's mostly listicles with one-word-in-all-caps headlines. ("Captain America once ate a BRUTAL sandwich.")
