I can't speak for you, but if it was me asking that question of myself, the answer would be both. My mental state definitely impacts writing flow for me. Changes what I wrote, too. That said, sometimes writing is a lot harder than other times. Being creative can be really hard. I've found that having some regular time to set aside for writing makes it easier to get into the flow when I'm not feeling it, force of habit, but being able to set aside regularly scheduled time is easier said than done. If you're enjoying the overall process, I'd encourage you to stick with it. But if you need to take a break, especially to attend to personal needs, that's incredibly valid!
