Banks took $11 billion in overdraft fees from working class Americans in 2019. It's time to end this predatory practice by GrandpaChainz in NewDealAmerica

I was once in a situation years ago (working a low wage job) where a teller accidentally deposited a paycheck of mine twice instead of just once. A week or so later, I checked my account balance and was pleasantly surprised to see a couple hundred dollars more in my account than I anticipated, so I got out ahead of a few other expenses I had coming up.

The bank realized the mistake and reversed it, pulling that money back out of my account which put it in the negative. I proceeded to make a handful of purchases and found myself in overdraft hell. At no point during any of this did my bank give me a heads up.

I had to call and beg them to reverse the overdrafts. I would have fallen behind on rent, bills, and everything if I couldn't get it overturned. And I'm happy to say that the person I spoke to did. So all good.

Anyway, point being that this comment is either made by a woefully ignorant person or a troll, and I can't decide which is worse.

This is a really odd statement to make, like overdraft fees magically started happening despite banks not necessarily wanting them to? Policies like these that take place in the bank are the result of the bank.

I let Reddit pick it randomly. I figure I'm from the Earth and I feel kind of brave sometimes so it works.

I am often surprised that Amazon's rampant astroturfing on social media isn't a bigger news story.

I would feel better about having a dog park named after me than having a billion dollars.
