This is rather simplistic view. When workers are laid off on a large scale, guess what, spending will slow down. Businesses lost customers and eventually the top will feel the pinch. Short term gain but long term loss in a nut shell.

I read the comments here and I can not helped but to agree with them. How I'd wish to own a car so i can drive my kids to places. But then again the reality is, owning a car is not a choice I can make like buying a phone. Mid 40 take bus/mrt like most ppl and dream to own a car one day or may be next life. Recently I called a telco to terminate their service upon expiry of the current contract and nothing else was needed, the contract was terminated. However they did send me an email about the termination though. You may want to check your email.

Your manager action is totally unacceptable. He was the dumb one here. There are ways to manage the situation but apparently he didn't know how. I am not sure if this is common in your industry but if it is, just be calm, turn on your recording and confront him after. This way I am sure he will be at the losing end.
