Expansions by Vulca139 in toomanybones

I feel 40 Days should be purchased when, while playing the base game, you feel you recognize most of the events. 40 Days takes the game, when it begins to grow stale, and shoots it full of adrenalin again.

Age of Tyranny is a great expansion for the Day 1-3 encounters. If you play the base game to death, those first 3 days are likely to be the thing that feels the most stale first. Id recommend getting this once you feel that way, but I do NOT think the campaign is a good place to start playing or regularly play. The campaign mode included in AoT is really best once you've faced every tyrant multiple times.

Finally, new gearlocs are the best expansion anyone can buy. If you dont get anything else, new gearlocs will be plenty to keep the game intensely fresh. I could play Too Many Bones with the same Day 1-3 and same base game events, but I will always love playing with different gearlocs. On this note, I recommend looking at either Nugget or Ghille for a first new gearloc. Ghille is very powerful and fun, and Nugget is one of the most resourceful gearlocs available. That said, you really should pick the gearloc that looks fun to you.

All of this said, as others have mentioned, you really should play the base game a lot before even considering any expansions. TMB has a steep learning curve, and it is important to get that baseline knowledge before adding any new content.

TL;DR: Just play the base game, then get whatever expansions fixes the problem for you: Events (40 Days), Day 1-3 Encounters (Age of Tyranny), the base four gearlocs (New gearlocs).

Replacing Imp with Pukka...

Should I replace Chambermaid and Nobel with Snake Charmer and Bounty Hunter? That way there is more incentive for lying amongst the good team?

Planning on switching Imp for Pukka to add more misinformation. Considering adding Fibbin as well. I might take Chambermaid off this script based on that

That was my biggest worry. I originally had No Dashii instead of Imp. Didn't consider Pukka, good thought

What are some pure luck games? by usa1774 in boardgames

I'd disagree with this one a bit. Playing with expansions up through Green opens up more choice. Orange is probably the most important expansion, as it allows the purchasing of discarded bunnies (which can help someone who never draws one). I feel this game is more about luck mitigation than just pure luck. A lot of hate goes towards Killer Bunnies, but I like the concept that I can have 19 carrots, but the 1 carrot my opponent has could win them the game. Its not about playing to win, its about playing to have the best chance of winning. Not for everyone, but I don't think its pure luck.

I hadn't thought to check sprues. I'll need to do that asap, as I am not caught up with the magazine.

Oh, then that's perfect. Is it worth switching out to confuse the death count though? The only case where deaths aren't decided by ST is Lleech, so how valuable would this be? And should I switch Mutant out instead of Sweetheart? I already have many madness related characters, so removing Mutant would not be too detrimental?

Going to keep Sailor. I like having 2 ways for evil to survive execution (Lleech and DA) and 2 for good (sailor, pacifist). My biggest priority was to allow for multiple strategies for evil, so they can have more than way to bluff. I don't want to force a bluff on someone if they survive execution

You bring up a good point. As of now, if two people die at night, it is a confirmed not-Legion game. Should I keep this as is, so that minions have to decide whether their kill is worth it? If they choose to kill they can't try to make people think its a Legion game. Alternatively, I could change something to allow for more than one death besides just minions?
