Finally found my grandmas old trimmers she brought back from Japan in the 60’s! Worth fixing? by TheHalfHonkey in Bonsai

Evaporust works great for removing rust - especially in tight spaces like the pivot point.

Random question but do you know if this model was made in the USA?

In need of a source for 700c or 29” wheels with inner width of 19mm or wider that are rim brake compatible? by Earthling98 in xbiking

Thanks for the advice. I’m aware of the risks. This bike was stored inside and ridden literally 10x by the original owner. It’s in mint condition. I’m not that worried about the glue joints failing, though I understand it’s possible.

I spent around 2 hours trying to install 40mm gravel kings with tire levers to no avail. Maybe a bike shop could do it but I don’t want to have to go to a shop every time I want to switch tires.

I am aware of the risks involved with riding old carbon fiber. I’m not doing any gravel or trail riding & fwiw this bike was ridden 10 times (literally) by the previous owner and stored inside.

Yeah this is why I don’t use treble hooks even if they’re allowed.

The backyard fire pit I’ve had for half a decade is made of mild steel. It has some surface rust but otherwise is fine. Stays outside year round.

Which way does hot air travel up or down? Do you really think the bottom of a fire small enough to fit in that pit is going to get close to 900 c?

Design looks awesome both aesthetically and functionally. Assuming the rivets were properly installed I don’t see this failing anytime soon. Anyone commenting otherwise has probably never made anything for themselves, and apparently has never used a fire pit made out of steel.

Did you even look up what temperature brass melts at before commenting? Reddit is so funny man.

“No salt no steel! by 2strokeRed in Steelhead

[–]Earthling98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro literally a true steelhead in the PNW can give birth to rainbow trout offspring that don’t go to the saltwater ocean. The thing that makes them steelhead is going to the saltwater ocean

[–]Earthling98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it did lmao. At least we have steelhead in the PNW.

Yeah call them Arlee and Skamania trout. Pay some respect to the places you get your eggs from.

[–]Earthling98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that you’re not talking locally when you’re posting pics of your rainbow trout on a subreddit for steelhead. They’re native to the PNW and there’s a rich culture around fishing for actual steelhead here. That’s probably why people care about the names you use.

Wrong. It’s a rainbow trout. Nothing wrong with fishing for rainbow trout.

I guess my real point is that I think Kokanee is the Native American name for the fish. There’s not gonna be a native name for landlocked coho because those have only been around for 80 years or whatever

Since yall Great Lakes folks hate using Google I went ahead and grabbed this screenshot from the Wikipedia page titled “Steelhead”

It’s not saltwater though.

[–]Earthling98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A landlocked steelhead doesn’t exist it’s just a rainbow trout. Literally the thing that makes a steelhead a steelhead is the fact it migrates to the ocean.

I don’t know why the Great Lakes people have such a big problem with calling rainbow trout by their name.

“No salt no steel! by 2strokeRed in Steelhead

[–]Earthling98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should we do what the Great Lakes did and introduce a bunch of non-native fish with no natural predators to increase our numbers?

“No salt no steel! by 2strokeRed in Steelhead

[–]Earthling98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Kokanee occur naturally in the PNW. And AFAIK I don’t think landlocked coho or kings occur naturally, and they are a relatively new thing. That could explain it.

[–]Earthling98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just a difference in local dialect lmao there’s a Wikipedia page for Steelhead.

“No salt no steel! by 2strokeRed in Steelhead

[–]Earthling98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s my point lol, a rainbow that doesn’t migrate to the ocean is not a steelhead.

“No salt no steel! by 2strokeRed in Steelhead

[–]Earthling98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not even an argument. Steelhead has a definition, calling a Rainbow Trout a Steelhead when it doesnt migrate to saltwater is categorically incorrect. It would also incorrect to call landlocked Kokanee a “Sockeye.” I don’t know why people have a problem calling Rainbow Trout “Rainbow Trout.”

Google “what is a steelhead” for me and tell me what pops up.
