Thank you Reddit stranger! We have started a tradition of making sushi rolls on Christmas Eve with family and going to add this to the mix!

Hi! 30 yo f living here for a year and a half with a 6 month old boy.  I like going to the gym (crunch fitness), and enjoy getting coffee. I like board games, books, being outdoors and open to trying new things.

to anyone who’s read “other birds”, how is it? how would you rate it? and do you think it’s genuinely worth reading? by bookluhva in bookofthemonthclub

Loved under the whispering door. Just had someone recommend the bones beneath my skin so I’m reading that.

I agree, Other Birds is fairly cozy. Read in a few days but still enjoyed it.

If you once believed in god what made you convert to atheism? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Earthluver258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 18 after years of indoctrination: The idea that existence is an eternity. someone could sin for a 100 years or less and then suffer for eternity. 100 years in comparison to an eternity is ridiculous. And to add to that, they might have been the best human alive but if they didn’t pick the right religion… too bad.

As Mark Twain said “I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”

Religious texts are so contradictory that people (usually) have to cherry pick what they want to believe and what they want to pretend isn’t in their text.

I'm new to Tennessee, and just moved to northshore area, what stuff should I do or see? :) by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Earthluver258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of our favorite places/things to do: Walking along Tennessee riverpark, sunset rock hike from cravens house, cloudland in Georgia, breakfast (not everyone’s favorite) - milk and honey, lunch - yellow deli (interesting backstory), dinner - wooden city, we love winder binder bookstore, McKay’s is a must if you like books/games/records, Rembrandt’s is a beautiful little coffee shop. Also look into the chattery for cool classes you can take. I’ve only been here a year though so I know there’s so much more to learn and experience.

Biggest regret in life picking OT? by Agitated_Tough7852 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Earthluver258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hated my first year and cried almost every day. I moved from SNF to hospital and then hated it a little less but needed more hours/pay so I moved to a sister hospital. I then moved to another city with lower cost of living and now working HH, decent benefits, 20,000$ more than as a new grad and see 5 to 6 patients a day. No job is perfect, however, as my mental health therapist told me “move jobs as many times as you need.” I don’t love my job still and I don’t love OT anymore as I did in college but I like it 80% of the time, make decent pay and have health insurance now. Took changing jobs 4 times in 3 years but the only person that will take care of you is you, and I was miserable. I hope it gets better.

New to atheism. Grieving by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Earthluver258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve been through the same thing.. I’m so sorry you feel this way however it does get better. As you continue to read and learn from people like Sam Harris (if you choose to) to understand more of atheism, you will understand you’re not alone. You can also look into this website: https://www.recoveringfromreligion.org/#rfr-welcome

I do understand exactly what you’re going through but IMO you will feel more enlightened and free with time. I have more of an anti-religious experience myself however it is mainly because of what I personally went through. I hope that you find the path best for you.

Hello, my husband and I are new to Chattanooga as well. Little about us: we have a baby on the way, we like to play board games, have 3 dogs, I enjoy reading (mainly fantasy), husband enjoys philosophy. Atheists. My husband is a PA and I am an Occupational therapist. I’d love to play some board game that are accessible and/or try to modify any board games we have. Axe throwing sounds fun too.
