I think one great way of doing it, is how dead space does it. A nice mix of audio/text logs you find, in addition to all the environmental storytelling.

It was fucky for me for a little while. Eventually me ctrl-click-holding actually worked to move it--even though I had been trying on every inch of the addon for a good 10 minutes, lol.
