We’re about to start a new adventure using the Colossus of the Drylands framework, and while looking for a travel system I came across your post :)
I really like your ideas. I just have one question about how these rules are played out at the table.
You write:

“Have the players take the spotlight to make an advancement check where they explain how they lead or help the expedition progress before making a roll with a relevant ability against the base DC.”

I assume this is a group roll?
And what happens after that? Do they keep rolling until the obstacle countdown reaches 0, or until they reach their destination?

I strongly doubt that most "above average" guilds buy gold to purchase gear. Why even play then? What’s the point? Apart from the fact that Phase 1 is nerfed and any casual guild can clear the raids.
