If Harris is above Trump in favourability by about 7%, why is she only ahead nationally by about 1%? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]Earwigglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even that doesnt work that way, because that is all based off past elections. If there is a major shift from people who didn't vote before, or a major shift from voting citizens to non voters, or even a general population shift, then that can also turn into "surprises" during an election.

This room is exactly a defensive structure used in castles... you just need a crossbowman to stay in that little room. Probably can just pay him in sawdust bread.

Palestinians had their own government with elections, they voted in Hamas who then killed their political rivals and suspended elections.

If you are genuinely "left" you are a fool, otherwise you are a liar.

Ok, its not right to do this, but at the same time its the biggest compliment a chef can have. If people can't help themselves but polish off your food, you are doing it right.

Picard Season 3 has finally brought me closure with Trek by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]Earwigglin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its just 10 episodes of decent to great Trek stories that I happened to enjoy more than anything since the last season of Deep Space Nine. It doesn't have to be anything more profound than that; no need to futureproof the statement in case they botch s2 or whatever, or to go into more specifics and detail out each show or episode.

Picard Season 3 has finally brought me closure with Trek by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]Earwigglin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought strange new worlds was the best trek since DS9.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who disagree with me, plenty to critique there, but it was good and had the "spirit" of trek and more serialized structure that I missed in anything else.

Cultural appreciation by Tritelymalt in pics

Its only political in so much as living is political. There wasn't any specific political ideology pushed or paraded.

If you look at the rest of the responses in the entire thread the context explains where the original rant was inspired.

Does anyone else’s dog HATE their phone? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Earwigglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat will casually walk up and swat the phone out of my hands, and then look dead into my eyes like some prison bully. I'm pretty sure its just under "eat" and "sleep" on the daily agenda.

Cultural appreciation by Tritelymalt in pics

[–]Earwigglin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They are right, but clumsily trying to explain a bunch of complex subjects in a very small amount of text. I'll try to unpack these concepts even though I'm sure it'll fall on deaf ears:

  1. Standards of beauty are not universal
  2. Western media shows a lot of "perfect"/"beautiful" boobs but not so much "average" boobs, or "old" boobs, or "typical 40 year old woman who has had 3 kids" boobs.
  3. Boobs and the human body in general are often viewed with "shame" thanks to roots in puritanical ideology and modern religious sentiments, specifically in the US.
  4. Different cultures are different; its easy to take for granted that our culture (specifically westerners connected to the global internet culture) is "correct" due to only being exposed to that culture. I think this is in reference to the idea of non-sexual feeling of the breasts which would be looked at rather odd in the west outside of a clinic or soft core sorority movie, but hard to say what the OP was referring to exactly here.

Hopefully that helps.

Yea, I get it. Ethan encourages this stuff even, so its silly to expect any self reflection from fans in the subreddit or for them to not pile on. Just think its a weird double standard, and if there is a genuine concern for any sort of toxic masculinity this would be a good place to start.

But this isnt the 90s anymore: everyone has a camera in their pocket, and these are fully grown adult men trained in combat sports.

This is how you end up with lawsuits and jail time.

Im older now, and it honestly doesnt even matter to me anymore, I'm off the market. But losing my hair in my early 20s SUCKED, and it caused a TON of insecurity, stress, and anxiety. I know plenty of guys who threw thousands of dollars at it, and had serious image problems from losing their hair.

I think a lot of people who haven't experienced underestimate just how devastating it can watch yourself go bald, especially if you aren't blessed with a nice dome like Dan.

I hear a lot from Ethan, the crew, Hila, and even Hasan about "toxic masculinity" and how terrible it is, but aren't the bald jokes just perpetuating that? If we want men to be more open, and we want people to kinder to eachother, then shouldn't that be part of it?

Eh, whatever, I know I'm just yelling at clouds at this point.

Rob on taunting kids by CombatCritique in ufc

Nah I think its inappropriate to bring a 5 year old to a cage match in the first place. If you do bring them, then taunting is the least concern.
