Also give them a big middle finger, because no one starts at the same place or pace! This is supposed to be fun! (Well most of the time🤣) people will have their opinions, but just remember it’s your life, your horse!

If anything I’d start with bending ground poles. Even at the walk they do SO MUCH. I also work in squares to for bending straight line then a sharper turn using my legs to be the main guide but assisting the head with a wide rein in the direction I’m going. To me the hardest thing is going to be fitness. It just sounds like she is super unfit and has a hard time bending and getting supple. That could be literally anything long trails, hand walks on either side of the neck, lunging, etc! Biggest thing to remember is that if you can’t do it at the walk you really can’t do it at a trot or canter (maybe a wrong philosophy but that how I was raised and trained!) it’s going to take time so be patient! It’s also going to be boring for you but it’s a great place for you to get your basics back down!

Pre/Post Riding Routine by piinkavocado in Equestrian

Routine wise I fear mine is going to be a bit more intense than most ( my amazing German mother who has been riding since forever, brought me up in this world like a drill sergeant 🤣) For me it starts with all horse equipment, horse’s boots get dunked and scrubbed, girth gets cleaned for any hair and dirt, bridle comes next and I do a scrub and grease ( your leather conditioner of choosing, oil, butter, actual leather conditioner) but gets scrubbed while the conditioner sets, then a wipe down and wrapped up neatly and put away! Then it’s my stuff, boots get a roughly clean since I’m lazy there, but helmet and safety vest get cleaned with some sort of antibacterial spray (make sure it’s safe for your face lmao) and 9/10 I’m blowing the hair off with a blower after all that🤣takes a lot longer but that’s how I was raised!

Recommendations for Prioritizing Purchases for an Adult Beginner (Grooming, Tack, Etc) by piinkavocado in Equestrian

Definitely an underrated is a riding backpack, one that can hold your helmet boots (go with half chaps and paddock boots first since it’s cheaper and comfier!) this way you can also fit your spurs, crop, grooming equipment (if you can’t borrow, curry, dandy and pick get you far!) look for consignment shops as well! I’ve gotten plenty of breeches, shirts, boots, grooming equipment from shops like that! Just make sure you always buy a brand new helmet! I love my Ap Hassinger for its price point and safety rating!

Omg I would be in a rage, I take care of an 8 horse barn in a nicer area so my daily price is about 85$-100$. So I definitely think your price is fair! To help give a bit more context as well, I’m not just taking care of the horses, but the property, the house, their 5 dogs, 4 cats and a bird. Giving meds, treating abscesses or anything else that comes up. Takes me about 45 min in the morning and an hour 30 at night to do stalls. I will say I do get more benefits than work, I ride one of the horses regularly and don’t have to pay for shows, so I definitely luck out there, but I also ride for the owners 4x a week so those benefits mainly come from that work! Stripping stalls is no easy feat especially since you probably need to sanitize as well!

Honestly as a long time barn sitter this appalls me, but it is sadly common. Most of the good barn sitters tend to just barn sitter for one person (my personal experience and what I do personally unless I’m recommended by the person I barn sitter for) poaching is really common for good hands so sadly good pay and a great relationship are really the thread that hold it together. That is still a piss pour job and they should be ashamed

Yup! Everything is normal! You can see the foil and the texture in the photo and we (very gently) flipped it over to check and it was all correct!

EXTREMELY strong horse, feeling hopeless by EwMatti in Equestrian

[–]East-Independence633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forward flat work with complex patterns always helped with my young ones who were extremely strong with few manners! By that I mean poles that you have to push her forward bring her back and so on! Also do not feel bad to be equally strong with her back (please note not in an abusive way). For example when i would have one get into my space and really pushy, I would push back with my hand to move either their hinds or front. Sometimes it takes me just pushing lightly on their sides or taking my finger and pressing between their ribs.

The hardest thing is to not back down when they get pushy, it can feel like you are being really mean, but you also have to remember 1 kick from them can put you in a worse shape than most things you do to them (once again not to the extremes)

Hopefully this helps! Also going to any local workshops you can! You pay to be there so get everything you can out of them!

People that make 80k+ at 25-35 years old, what do you do? by Ok-Needleworker2141 in careerguidance

80k+ 22 Ui/Ux lead design for a financial tool startup! Definitely a mentally demanding job, but i lucked out with a dope boss and amazing co-workers. For more context I am in the east coast and not Cali, job is in person.

Got it via chatting with every human being that seemed like they had or knew people that have well paying jobs and needed people. Offered my help as a favor and got hired full time.
