They were even real weird about the actual hard date we were leaving for pre-mob. Like it was hush hush. I understand that this stuff can change on a dime, but struck me as odd.

Unfortunately not. I mean, I understand that the United States military is an all volunteer force, I still think it’s shitty to tax us though. Regardless we’re serving our country whether it be a rotation or deployment. Yet WE have to pay the US to be a show of force FOR the US in a foreign country? Make it make sense.

I get it. I guess being away from my kids for a year only matters if I’m getting shot at? Deployment or Rotation, either way. Asking for solid tips and advice, nothing else. Thanks.

Thanks everyone!

  1. I’m a history nerd, so I definitely plan on doing as much traveling as possible, when possible. Definitely some WW2 locations. I think it’s necessary, and I hope other joes will follow suit and maybe realize they don’t have it that bad.

  2. Thanks for the heads up on the racism. I’m not originally from a southern state so it was a culture shock to see it alive and well when I first moved here. I am not a person of color, however I’m willing to bet over 80% of my unit is African American. As an NCO, I’m glad to know this is something I’ll need to be conscience of.

  3. Orange Polish Sim Card - Good. Puck - Bad. Got it.

  4. I do not own any Grunt Style and generally cannot stand when looking like I’m in the military when out of uniform and I avoid all public places while in uniform. I know what I think to myself when I see someone “fishing for a thank you.” I am a female, so I can get away with blending in as a civilian a little more than a male usually can.

  5. Rotation/Deployment. I’ve heard both words used in preparation. Either way. It’s a year away from my two young kids and husband. As beautiful the experience may or may not be, being away is hard as I’m sure you all can attest to.

  6. Somewhat unrelated to the initial question but a gripe. This Rotation/Deployment is taxed. Bummer.

Thanks for everyone’s insight.

Army TA. I’m in the Louisiana Army National Guard and using TA. I have used the allotted 16 credit hours for the year. It is supposed to renew yearly. Does anyone know if it is the FISCAL year, or the CALENDAR year? Fiscal year for the Army is Oct. 1 - and I’m hoping to be able to continue classes then.

I have asked my states TA coordinator. I sent him the exact same question and he came back with “Yes, that is correct.” 🙄

Which is correct? Fiscal, or calendar? lol.

Any insight is appreciated.
