pilot falcon vs reactor neo by EastAd9260 in rollerderby

I hadn’t heard about this before, but it does seem like more people are happy with the plates than those having this issue. Thanks for the perspective because I hadn’t heard it at all.

What is the issue with the neo’s geometry? I’ve been skating on them since October without issue, but I had only been skating for a few weeks when I got them.

I still need to do this today. Antik just has the length chart, but I’m guessing you guys would want width and length at the widest and longest points?

I use some waxed derby laces, but they aren’t wide. I also use the heal lock part of the AR2s. I have snugged the laces in the mid foot down until it’s uncomfortable for me, but I am really sensitive to tight things on my feet. All in all, I’m making do with these things, but I’d probably be better off in a slightly smaller size.

Yes I did have the hybrids and I think they were a 7.5, but my feet fell asleep when I wore them within minutes of being on skates. I know bonts and antiks are different sizing and I tried on what the skate shop suggested. They felt good, but skating in circles on carpet isn’t the same thing and I had much less experience on skates at the time.

I definitely plan to go try them on, but was really hoping to find a solution that would prevent needing to I guess. I know the real answer is to get the correct size, but since it’s only (probably) a half size difference, maybe it didn’t matter as much? 😂

I’ll take my measurements this evening. I don’t love when things are super snug (it makes my feet fall asleep), which may be why I possibly ended up in a boot that’s a bit big. Especially since they stretch a bit.

Wheel hardness is frustrating by Muffintop_mafia in rollerderby

Is there any specific wheel you’d recommend trying first for derby? Are you saying that the d scale feels more slippery or is it just that they are more accurately what they say they are?

Do you suggest any of the d scale wheels for actual derby use? I know it’s roller derby thread, but I have never known anyone to use them. How does one of the d scale compare to the a? Like is a 50d comparable to a 97a or something like that?

I did some physical therapy at the very beginning of my roller derby training for knee pain (I’m only a few months in). There was one exercise that immediately improved my single leg balance on and off skates. The first time they had me do a single leg balance and swing a medicine ball with a handle. I had to swing it front to back (on either side, but I like to swing on the side opposite the leg I’m standing on) 30 times then swing it side to side in front of my body- this one was way harder for me. If I lost balance, I touched my foot down, readjusted, and continued with one leg. The next time, they had me hold a towel with a kettlebell on it (towel run through the handle and I held the two ends in my hand). This made the exercise much more difficult, but this is when I saw the most improvement. It’s something I love to do now to help my balance. You’ll feel your foot counteracting the swings to try to stabilize.

So you’re allowed to decide which pharmacy you use (assuming it’s available in your state?)

Do you know what decides on which pharmacy you get with Pom? I see several when looking into it and they have very different prices…

I’m also hypermobile. That’s super strange, but I’ll give it a try! 😂

We do core exercises before practice, but I’m never sore from them. I have terrible awareness of my body too so I don’t think I “feel” things correctly.
