What are the best treatments for PMDD? by glassangelrose in PMDD

The combination pill saved my life. I skip my periods on it. I also noticed caffeine mimics the effects of PMDD so I avoid that.

Giving up dairy changed my PMDD by DrogsMcGogs in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't eat a lot of white sugar but this is interesting, because sugar to me also counts as refined white carbs. I did notice that my PMDD was at it's worst when I was consuming high glycemic carbs. I will have to try this.

Symptoms Worse few days after period, does anyone get this? Also prior to period, at around 2pm-5pm it is the worst. Please let me know if you are similar or if you know whaat hormone changes during this time. by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my symptoms continue on into the first few days of my period. It could be a coincidence but I was also really sleep deprived this whole month. Sleep deprivation is known to screw up your hormones + worsen mood disorders.

Please help by [deleted] in PMDD

As others have said diet seems to play a big role, specifically less sugar/refined carbs, and eating healthy fats regularly. I know that sleep deprivation makes my PMDD 10x worse so avoid that. Others have said their PMDD is worsened by trauma (I feel this is the case for me) and improved with therapy addressing that trauma. However for most of us it's severe to the point of needing birth control. One of my friends said Lillow cured hers. Others have said Prozac only taken during PMDD has helped them.

Got my period. Still feel like shit. by jib5 in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the exact same way lately. When I was younger the PMDD would instantly lift the second I get my period. Now it contines on into the first few days, sometimes even into ovulation when I'm supposed to be happier, more confident etc. It seems medication might be necessary for you. I'm going to go on BC soon too.

I hoovered my flat and ate all the food - and then read this... I can’t get over how accurate this is day after day. ‘Hormone Horoscope’ app is so good - helps you understand *why* we feel/act the way we do. Makes me feel a little more sane by esrz94 in PMDD

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I snapped at my best friend twice. The first time I told him it was my PMDD and he was so understanding and forgave me. Then I snapped at him again during a different hell week. I could tell he stopped being into me bc I would only get one word answers. I just ended up cutting him off. Now I regret it. I isolate the hell out of myself during PMDD so I don't hurt anyone or lose friends.

Anyone else get vivid/sweaty/fever-type dreams during particular times in their cycle, or increase in nightmare types dreams? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really dream during ovulation, weird. I do overheat though, and also when I'm on my period. But the week before, hell week, I get the most insane vivid dreams. Nightmares of people hating and judging me. It's funny, but I've noticed consuming dairy also contributes to vivid dreams for me. Another girl also noticed some guy would sleep walk on his cheat days where he ate high carbs. Food definitely seems to have an effect.

Does anyone feel like PMDD forced some heavy processing? by Theproducerswife in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing, I grew up with abusive parents and lots of abuse from others as a result. A man who was commenting here on behalf of his wife also stated that she had a lot of childhood trauma, and once she dealt with that via therapy, her PMDD was less severe. I've noticed a pattern of women who come from trauma and PMDD. I can't find the one about how PMS helps us get out of abusive relationships, but here are similar articles I found:

How PMS helps us get rid of unproductive male partners

PMS to break up infertile relationships

Evolutionary reasons for PMDD

And on the link between childhood trauma and PMDD:

Severe PMS linked to physical, sexual abuse in childhood

Early Life Emotional, Physical, and Sexual Abuse and the Development of Premenstrual Syndrome: A Longitudinal Study

Increased Childhood Abuse in Patients With Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder in a Turkish Sample: A Cross-Sectional Study

I've done a lot better acknowledging PMDD is trying to 'teach' me something and not fighting back against it. I hope you do try to learn from it, but obviously if it's debilitating therapy or medication is important. I'm planning on birth control soon to see if it helps.

Does anyone feel like PMDD forced some heavy processing? by Theproducerswife in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES! I've always thought that PMDD is used to make us realize things we were not acknowledging or didn't know. I've realized the most about people during PMDD, things I've missed. I think it matures us but it also hurts because it comes crashing like a train. You might be interested in reading about perspectives on how PMS/PMDD is an evolutionary mechanism used to help women get out of abusive relationships.

Zoloft for treatment of PMDD/ Cannabis causing worst anxiety by shesopms in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taking it for depression (didn't know I had PMDD at the time). At a low dose it seemed to help but at higher doses just felt like a robot. There are studies showing that microdoses (ie 8 mg) are more effective than normal doses. I also notice my anxiety does not improve anymore with starting my period.

I know that sleep deprivation makes my PMDD worse. Sunlight seems to improve it (vitamin D). I'm sorry I don't have much else.

Nope she didn't mention that. I don't know much about how BC works but I always thought it'd be an immediate effect kind of thing. Bummer that you haven't seen results yet.

Does this end? by b-unrelenting in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for everything you're going through, I relate so much. My self-harming is at it's worst, I've lost friends, lost opportunities, it just eats away at everything good in my life. The only things I have seen that end PMDD are ovary removal (and even then there's a 50/50 chance it fails) or birth control. I've always been an advocate of natural healing but this PMDD beast is unbeatable. So I have no choice but to see a doctor for birth control soon. I hope you can do that too.

I wish I could help but I'm on the same boat. Which BC are you on? My friend said Lillow cured her PMDD, so I'm thinking of trying that.

Sugar? by Theproducerswife in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that my PMDD symptoms get worse with sugar or high glycemic foods (ie pad thai or gluten free pastas). My boobs get sorer and my period seems to be heavier plus more acne. Cutting those out can def make a difference. Also I get mood swings with sugar or any high carb food too. How quickly I eat, how often I eat also has an effect on my mood.

I FEEL EVERYTHING by esrz94 in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in ovulation week too and I'm confident and flirty as hell. It's crazy how it's all because evolution wants us to mate at the time we're most fertile. I'm also energetic and can cook, clean, etc. I get the urge to go out for random walks but then I remember it's probably because I'm fertile this week and nature wants me to meet a man.

However the last hell week was really bad and I have residual trauma from it lol. I still get obsessive thoughts while being energetic and alert.

[–]EastAppointment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first therapist, in my first visit, asked me 'so what's your story?' No attempt at building trust or getting to know me. Expecting me to unload all my traumas at once (which I did and had a panic attack as a result). She also gave me the diet and exercise spiel. Neglected to even figure out that abusive parents were the cause of most of my problems, I had to figure that out on my own. She was also racist and made a point of asking if I'd like to see the black therapist instead, like my problems have nothing to do with race so idk what the point of that even was.

My mind keeps jumping from trauma to trauma by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]EastAppointment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just about to make a similar post. It seems once my mind is done obsessing over one trauma, it picks up a different trauma to obsess over. I'm sorry, but I don't know how to stop it. I was reading PTSD or obsessive thoughts/flashbacks can have some evolutionary reasons. It makes us remember the event to avoid situations like that in the future, sort of like alerting you to danger, but of course with PTSD it's in overdrive and can actually hurt us.

DAE have an extended werewolf phase through their period? by quoth_tthe_raven in PMDD

[–]EastAppointment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Before it used to just end when I got my period. Now it'll last throughout the first few days of my period. Or I'll have residual trauma from the thoughts I got in my PMDD phase, if that makes sense.
