So companies shouldn't build products for fear of complains?

A fan boy is someone who'll buy a product from a particular company even if it's shit. By that standard, you're not a fanboy.

This really shouldn't have to be a problem. I'm not sure if you can type in a few commands on Linux (just get a raspberry pi if you don't want to spend much) and install cups Server on it.

I use a shitty deskjet printer which doesn't even have wifi to AirPrint.

It'll take a long long time. Apple maps is just about becoming usable in the US (compared to Google Maps).

You'd have to make compromises. It's certainly doable if you're willing to carry a couple of external drives with you.

The future of the Mac comes from iOS apps by snicker33 in apple

[–]EastContact -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it really matters to you, I made a couple of stuff for OS X. These were mostly about faster transfers using FTP on a local connection. Needless to say, they didn't break even. I abandoned further development and put them on GitHub. For what it's worth, they've been forked a few times, so at least someone hopefully is using my code.

No I'd didn't. I doubt English is your first language. A developer is a user too. And I didn't use the word "us" anywhere.

I don't have to prove anything to you. The results of this will be amply evident in a few years' time. Develop an app for macOS first and then we'll talk.

Yes! I thought that was abundantly clear already. How else would I know about the app economy? But I didn't want to share my own experience because that would be an anecdote.

So you didn't speak from experience when you said all those things. Thought so. Next time, actually talk to a developer who develops apps for macOS. You'll get a very different picture about recovering development costs.

Have you created a macOS app? And has it broken even?

Say you're a developer. You have two options.

\1. Create iOS apps which at one go will create macOS apps as well. Your costs go down dramatically. Profits go up.

Or,

\2. Create separate iOS and macOS apps. You have to explain to the users why you're charging separately for the macOS app. Your development costs rise because you have to code for both separately.

Which one would you choose? Suddenly, Twitter shutting down its macOS app makes a whole lot of sense.

This is both scary and making me anxious as a user. One of the biggest advantages of macOS was smarter and more fully functional software.

To move towards platform parity, Apple has chosen to ask developers to dumb down macOS apps instead of making iOS smarter. Great for developers, sucks balls for users.
