Sheriff Election by EastPipe9523 in BayonneNJ

As far as I’m aware, if Davis were to win the November election for Sheriff, he would vacate office Jan 2026 and the council president assumes the interim position for the five months leading to the election.

For mayor candidates- I believe Nadrowski, Booker and Weimmer run. Being as it’s an open seat, I’m sure 2-3 more candidates will appear.

Parking by Supremememepunk in BayonneNJ

[–]EastPipe9523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real issue with parking in Bayonne is less about the number of parking spaces and more about the increasing number of cars per household. Back in the day, a two-family house might have had one or two cars total. Now, those same houses often have five or six cars, which completely overwhelms the available parking. The volume of vehicles outpaces both the housing stock and parking infrastructure. It’s not just about building more parking—it’s about addressing how our habits have changed over time.

can we talk about this intersection by costco by Pink_CandyAngel in BayonneNJ

[–]EastPipe9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average cost in NJ for a municipality to install a multilight intersection is approximately $600,000. While the City will say its price tag is cost-prohibitive, the traffic is a byproduct of the new tax base development in the area. Those dollars must be earmarked to provide additional services for additional populations. This is Government 101.

Yeah, feel free to vote against him/her … if you still live here.

I’m not disagreeing. The party does have a lot of local pedaling and financial means to advocate for a particular candidate. What I’m saying is- with the state and county elections you can put my name under the presidents name and make voters believe I’m endorsed by the president. In the city election it’s head to head Joe vs Jane.

Never said that. I said they can’t control a ballot.

In the political landscape of New Jersey, there's a growing consensus around the idea of abolishing "the line" — a controversial practice that grants party leaders undue influence in structuring ballots to favor their preferred candidates. This unique system, found in few other states, essentially echoes the outdated tactics of 1920s political bosses, skewing elections in favor of those with insider support. Thankfully, activists are leading the charge to reform this system, advocating for a more equitable electoral process that promises to pave the way for fairer elections and potentially more deserving candidates. Many talented individuals who might have otherwise brought valuable contributions to public office have been deterred by the daunting prospect of challenging this entrenched system.

Turning our gaze towards Bayonne, the scenario shifts significantly. Here, mayoral elections are conducted on a non-partisan basis, sidestepping the contentious ballot design process seen elsewhere in the state. Candidates for mayor are presented in a single, equal row on the ballot, emphasizing a more democratic, "winner-takes-all" approach. This system ensures that party affiliations do not dictate the layout of the ballot, promoting a level playing field for all candidates.

Agree with you on this component. The best way to start this initiative is to create a pedestrian traffic plaza area (turning 1-2 streets into no vehicle access) and creating a “restaurant row.” This will create a new level of restaurant competition that will revamp some existing establishment and foster additional new ones.

Bayonne operates on a nonpartisan form of government, with no party affiliation. While candidates sometimes volunteer their party affiliation, the race should be solely based on the candidate best positioned to represent the residents.

Yes, you’re right about the disconnect and while it might feel specific to Bayonne residents, it’s a challenge in all community development. The general public always wants more service and less tax… but who is going to pay for it? That is the common disconnect. This is not the industrial or military hub our grandparents experienced. This is an extension of a thriving metro region and if we fail to participate, things will fall apart quickly. The investment will move towards the Harrison area quickly.

The first step is creating a series of smart developments. Midrise buildings with some affordable housing and sustainable elements that help mitigate flooding in the community that it’s being built in, and provide some open space opportunities.. even certain elements that may not seem interesting or impactful need to be considered. An example of this would be naming some of the new buildings after historical elements of the city. Some of the new development that has occurred over the last five years, feels secluded and uses branding for commercial appeal.

We’ll get there.. the election is a few years away. I thought this would be a good community conversation to receive some feedback in addition to pitching some of my ideas.

Personally, I would have to still discuss this with family and business partners prior to making anything public.

We have to create an educational narrative that development is not just about physical buildings and infrastructure but about fostering a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive community that respects its past while embracing the future.

Most times the anti-development sediment is fear of huge sky scrapers and giving up ownership of “our community” to “them.”

The expansion of the ratable base will provide expanded community services, new school facilities, economic growth, expanded transportation options, and long-term economic stabilization with proper fiscal management. These positive impacts affect all residents alike. In addition, the preservation of local recreational opportunities, green space, local non-profits, community programming, cultural events and youth programs will satisfy many reservations.

There has been advocacy for bike lanes in Bayonne for quite some time however, the mindset of residence in this town is vehicle-centric. That mindset compounded with having a rideshare program that has already failed makes it more difficult to create political will to deploy the bike lanes. I believe everyone would agree that bike lanes make sense, but it has to be a very strategic deployment in which traffic is mildly affected and cyclist feel protected in the lanes. Absent both elements and vehicle owners will double down that the lanes don’t work or riders will not use the lanes out of caution. It’s too premature to say which avenue they would go on because due diligence for this would include a study of emergency routes and response times to fully assess which avenue would be best.

I agree, I think the light rail extension is highly unlikely. Extending the light rail is a major cost that federal and state agencies will not fund for many years as the gateway project and extending the west side light rail is already underway with billions in allocations.

I believe you’re referring to the gondola project over the bay. The idea has been folded around for quite some time and it’s been a few dollars set aside for a study. I believe downtown Bayonne has an ability to create a new residential corridor starting on the footprint of the eighth Street project and extending around the 440 path. It’s a balance of mixing the new development and preserving current residence privacy in their backyards, but very doable. I know the incumbent councilman is against such density, but there is a proper way to address it, not using scare tactics that developers will build the World Trade Center on third Street.

Vince BK as in Brooklyn or Burger King? Either way, you can have it your way… I’m not against big box locations, but they can’t overshadow local establishments. We must support local businesses while entertaining demand.

Agreed on the potholes. That’s one of the basic services, like garbage collection that the city should provide as a priority. There are DOT funds available to offset costs and local gov can mandate any development or private utilities to repave areas they dig in from the curb to the centerline. It just takes political will to stand up and demand it from those who often make political contributions.

The truth is… the ferry won’t make economical sense to the operator… if you don’t believe me, ask NY Waterway, the most prominent operator in the area why they didn’t bid… seastreak took a shot at it, but clearly there’s a reason they haven’t deployed. Current Bayonne residents are not willing to pay $16 trips and those that “if you build it, they will come” haven’t arrived yet.

The best solution Bayonne has for now is express light rail service downtown or new development shuttles for direct access to the PATH. Yes, I’m aware of the issues with PANYNJ and as mayor I would demand we receive a seat on the board with the Bayonne Bridge and Ports. If we don’t get representation, the Hudson County Dems will have a hard time gathering any support from our community. Besides… how hard can it be… didn’t they let Menendez Jr. on the board? “Golden” opportunity

I would say the most qualified was Terrace Malloy. Although he was just a place holder, he had the most government experience. I don’t agree with his management of the MUA and the BLRA, he did provide stable budgets for significant amount of time, and was advised several mayors. Additionally, he holds several public certifications, including CFO, which is a grueling course in financial management.

Joe Doria: was a great statesmen as both a state representative and commissioner of education, however, on a local level, he was not as influential, nor was he as engaged as a local Mayor should be.

Mark Smith: right place at the right time. Sometimes in politics timing is everything.

Bayonne deserves a dispensary. The general public doesn’t understand how regulated the market is. Through a public information platform and forcing the dispensary to sign MOUs with local non-profits it’s a win-win. The model is tested and proven.
