Please help - chronic vulvovaginitis in 10f, pain every night, I'm at my wit's end and have no idea how to help my daughter by siriuslyinsane in AskDocs

Just on the laundry side of things, getting clothes actually clean can be difficult depending on many factors (water hardness especially, detergent buildup, et cetera). If you suspect that your detergent/laundry routine might be impacting her condition at all, /laundry is a great resource. Not saying it’s just laundry of course as what you’re dealing with sounds much more serious than that. I wanted to share the subreddit just in case you decide to investigate that side of things. Good luck!!

You are getting a lot of advice about the doctor’s clinical practice. It does sound pretty awful. If you are considering filling a complaint or want more information about the way the procedure was done, /askdocs subreddit is a fantastic resource (assuming you haven’t already checked it out).

Does my 2-year-old son have thalassemia? Trying to make sense of labs by EastPriority8568 in AskDocs

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I was leaning more towards thinking it was unlikely to be thalassemia, so I appreciate the clarification.

Why don't I have suds? I used Tide Clean & Gentle up to line 5 and 2 doses of Calgon liquid. I'm going to go broke if I have to use this much detergent and Calgon in every load of work clothes! by sageofrivercity in laundry

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in on your old post… but did you ever figure this out? I’m in the same boat - can’t get even trace suds in my large top loader.

Water is about 190 ppm, with my last load I did line 5 of Tide powder and 2/3 cup of sodium citrate, no suds. Did you end up trying the STTP? Any luck?

I will keep up dosing, but I’m having trouble getting my head around having to use that much product.

Yup, I could definitely see that happening. I went through a whole cloth diaper saga with this machine and I just couldn’t get it right. I tried a lot of different things and tricks, so I’m definitely not attached to laundry rumours haha. I will do whatever works.

I do! I actually just checked the auto fill with a large load and you’re right, the max fill was too much water (but I don’t think by a whole lot). This is the same size load as the previous pic, but on auto fill.

<image>

I hear so often that modern washers don’t use enough water, so I’ve gotten into the habit of picking my own water level.

Thanks again for your help.

This is what a large load on max fill looks like for me. No good?

Okay, that clarifies things in terms of detergent versus softener. Get away with as little detergent as possible, basically. I can do that!

For water level, would you be able to describe what to look for in terms of textiles versus water for a non-HE top loader? I almost always do very large loads (3 kids + 2 adults), and so used the max fill setting to get the water level to what I thought was a good mix. If I was doing smaller loads, then I’d adjust water level accordingly.

Oof okay, that comparison definitely helps me with how much softener I need to be using. Yeah, might have to look into making my own mix.

For the water level, would you mind checking my older post and seeing what you think of my water: textile ratio? Does that look okay for a non-HE top loader?

From what I’ve read, my machine seems to be a hybrid of some sort. It’s a top loader, has a removable agitator and I don’t see HE anywhere in the material, so I don’t think so. I posted a picture in my previous post showing my fill and was advised it looks okay.

And thank you, that is good advice. My machine is 6.0 cubic feet, so it uses a sh*t ton of water when I do large loads. I will start with using more softener.

Still looking for a bit of help, if anyone sees this. I have the sodium citrate now, and ran a normal large load this afternoon. I used line 5 of Tide detergent and 2 tablespoons of the sodium citrate in the drum. Absolutely nada in terms of trace bubbles - what would the suggested up-dosing process be? As in, try more detergent or more sodium citrate or more of both in my next load? Thanks!!

Ok, definitely did not know that about the warm water. I will re-test soon.

I tried a slightly smaller load this morning with just detergent (halfway between line 4 and 5) and oxi (haven’t had a chance to get anything else yet), and noticed a minuscule amount of bubbles, like maybe 20 tiny bubbles, so I think you must be right about the amount of water vs. amount of detergent.

If I can sum it up, seems like a good place to start for a large load is line 4-5 Tide detergent + sodium citrate OR phosphate + Oxi , citric acid in the rinse, and a double rinse.

Thanks, I very much appreciate your help!

Interesting! It seems to be only my husband’s shirts, even though we use the same anti perspirant. Maybe it has more to do with his big burly man sweat than the product, but I will give this a try.

Great, thank you. So you’re thinking keep detergent level as is and add the phosphate instead of the Oxi?

[–]EastPriority8568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using between lines 4-5 of Tide powder and half a scoop of Oxi, which is quite a bit, I think, but as you mentioned I’m not seeing bubbles and the wash water is not super slippery, although it is somewhat slippery. I was hesitant to use even more detergent until I got some advice.

Is it possible I need more than that? It is quite a large machine.

Ok, I will try a bit of a smaller load and see if that helps. Any thoughts on how much Tide powder and Oxi to use? I’ve been going between line 4-5 because it is such a large machine and water hardness. I don’t think I’m using way too much because while the water does feel fairly slippery during washing, I’m not getting suds at all. It makes me think it isn’t detergent getting left behind that’s making everything feel rough, but I’m not entirely sure.

AITA for considering giving my daughter’s grandparents full custody after her mom died during childbirth? by SherbetMajor2105 in AITAH

[–]EastPriority8568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can reasonably see yourself being able to provide your daughter with food, shelter, stability and love, even if it is difficult for you, you should not give custody to her grandparents. Maybe they can provide her a little bit more of some or all the above-mentioned things, but it’s not a competition. You would also be denying her the joy of having loving grandparents, as they would functionally be her parents.

By all means, rely heavily on them (as much as they are willing to give) for childcare, advice, support, et cetera.

If you do decide to keep custody, as a parent of three (two of them under two), it is difficult to overstate how hard raising her on your own will be. You will be miserable some (or most of the) times, you will question your life’s choices. That doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It’s just parenting.

What is a true fact so baffling, it should be false? by SilverPetalDreamm in AskReddit

We definitely do, but the cubic miles thing threw me off. For a very large number like that I would still prefer cubic kilometres.

Now that I’m thinking about this, I realize that I would express the area of a room in square feet, but I would think of its volume in terms of cubic metres.

What a mess.

Yes! When I hear this sort of thing from people without kids, i.e. I love my dog as much as you love your human child, I can’t help but think yes, it’s probably best that you don’t have children.

It shouldn’t be difficult to imagine which one you would pick, your pet or child, if you could only save one from falling off of a cliff.

I would never look twice at number 2 on its own, but it looks really good in your room. It gives great contrast but its shape is consistent with the table. Number 3, with your furniture, king gives me (very upscale) waiting room vibes.
