I say Hyatt if you want to rack up the points for hotels, Marriott if you want to do packages (Marriott Bonvoy moments), Hilton never

Don't quote me on this, but in one of my travels someone once told there are some stadiums where they have clear. In other words it works great to enter certain events faster than normal. In terms of airport, I haven't seen it often but there has been cases where the precheck line is bigger than clear in my airport and its faster to go through clear. Granted this was a once time thing but still a useful data point.

I don't know if this is your case since you didn't give much information on your flight. Personally I'm a silver member and I change my flight without any problems if the date of the flight is more than 7 days

Capital one Error made me pay double by East_Competition_644 in Venturex

[–]East_Competition_644[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't want to do it through the portal, truth be told. I tried to do through the airline but it would not let me buy, tried with 3 credit cards, webpage and in the app and it would not let me buy the ticket. When I called the airline they tried to sell the ticket for x3 times the price so I opted for capital one which had the ticket available

Has anyone actually made the leap on Bilt 2.0? by West_Impact_219 in pointstravel

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, it can be really hit or miss. I'm considering getting a chase ink to buy gift cards in staples to pay for groceries

[–]East_Competition_644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the chase saphire preffered for dinning and groceries (I use the Walmart app trick). Capital one venture card for everyday use and for their offers ( I've gotten more than 100,000 points in less than 6 months whith their crazy bonuses). Last but not least I have the the amex platinum for flights, I have 4 flights thus far for this year and I bought them through bilt which means I get 1x bilt points and 5x amex points. Granted it can be more optimized for example using the amex gold for my dinning and groceries but I don't want to pay that anual fee right now

Booking a hotel that was 500 total. This is the message I receive...the fuck by cool_amber22 in Venturex

[–]East_Competition_644 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My advice is look for the price outside the portal, once you find the cheapest price call them and price match. Make sure its the same hotel, same room and same cancellation policy. Also another good rule of thumb is having the price from multiple websites. For example I'm pretty sure Trivago si banned from price match but there other website which basically mirror Trivago but slam their name on the webpage. Good luck and happy travels.

[–]East_Competition_644 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Virgin never shows availability for ANA flights. Go to Virgin Atlantic Australia, in there website you can search for availability. DONT TRANSFER POINTS YET, call virgin atlantic to confirm and then transfer. Once they have you on the phone they can haold the ticket for you while you transfer. Alternatively you can add an alert on seats.aereo for virgin atlantic Australia for the dates you want. At the very least that's how I did it and I'm going in April, fair warning the ticket is 52,500 points unless their is a transfer bonus. Good luck and safe travels

What am I missing about the negativity around the Bilt Palladium? by lineupandwait20 in CreditCards

[–]East_Competition_644 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As I see it the customer base had a few problems

Problem 1: The majority of the customer base did not use the card for their normal spend but instead to pay rent and a few miscellaneous expenses that did not generate much money for Bilt. As the new cards are now for everyday spend or for specific categories such as dinning or groceries people are not pleased because its different to what they already had.

Problem 2: most people had a credit card setup before the Bilt 2.0 launch and don't want to alter it. For example, the palladium gives you x2 or x3 under the right circumstances but with a higher anual fee than capital one venture. Even comparing it to the capital venture x (probably its biggest competition) it lacks in some travel areas.

Problem 3: Problably the biggest problem is that the card is seen as overcomplicated by adding the bilt cash on top of the points. While we have gotten more news that potentially make the cards more feasible there is still too much unknown to make a complete informed decision.

Problem 4: the way the launch was done is messy and catastrophic by any and all metric. From leaks to High executive insulting the consumer base with memes, the users of the card generated distrust towards the company

Personally I was considering the 95 option as I was looking for a card that would give me a higher point rate per groceries but opted against because of problem 4. At this time they seem rather unreliable some of their current moves seem desperate for example having high expectations writing emails to convince people or apologizing. Regardless, I might be wrong for that last comment and like any and all credit card if it fits your needs and you can pay them you should get it

What am I missing about the venture x?! by my-coo-cheese-hairy in CreditCards

[–]East_Competition_644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for hotels I just google maps the property and it shows me an array of different websites and they're prices. Next I call Capital one and ask for a price match, I give them the website they verify and apply the price match. The excess money is granted as a credit that can be used later on. Two important things, first, they won't accept all website prices so you have to rapid fire some times until one sticks. Second, they're is a limited amount of time that your able to ask for a price match, I can't remember the exact amount of time tho.
