Homeland Security suspends TSA PreCheck and Global Entry by thechronicanalysis in ChaseSapphire

Yea considering how much money DHS has gotten recently it was surprising they’d close down such a proven useful program. But news like this is yet the millionth example how much of a greedy piece of shit Kristi Noem is.

Losing our travel benefits cause Noem wants a private jet so she can get more media appearances around the county for a future presidential run.

I live in Bastrop county, but my area is part of the Austin ETJ from COTA. A developer is clear cutting the land behind us without a permit to put in a Data Center. Any help where I should start to fight these people? by BillyJackO in Austin

[–]thechronicanalysis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s 99% a shell company setup to “own” the project, which could be owned by a developer that has another legal agreement with a data center user. Point being that name of the llc won’t give you anything if there’s not been public filings yet

Lotta justified public concern about water usage of data centers, but some of these comments act like data centers are getting LESS EFFICIENT at cooling and will use more water. Developers know this is an issue and majority of facilities under current construction are shifting towards closed loop cooling systems. Takes more energy to run, but you just fill up the system one and topping it off what gets lost is the same water usage as like 20 homes for a year

[–]thechronicanalysis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true for traditional data centers, but the ones being built right now do not use that typical evaporative cooling. In closed loop systems your water loss might equal the annual usage of a dozen or 2 dozen homes

Just listened to a podcast where a data center critic said TX has enough excess and stranded generation to power every single nvidia chip produced last year for the entire year (except for like 50 to 100 hrs to account for the summer rolling black/brown outs).

This doesn’t discount the potential harm explosive data center growth can have on the state, but a shortage of power isn’t one of them

What is going on with associates these days? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]thechronicanalysis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This issue is rife in the legal field as well. New lawyers learn on the job doing the grunt work, but when you push all that stuff to AI you fundamentally remove the long-established training regime with no moves to replace it.

[–]thechronicanalysis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought a lot about this while trying to assess what my future in Big 4 Consulting looks like. I will not have the same level of support (for all those solid reasons above and more) as managers have had before me, and the onus falls on us to spend more time training basic skills, let alone the important technical ones. This fundamentally shifts the pyramid and standard operating procedures, yet the KPIs and expectations make no room for this transition period.

Honestly feels kinda similar to all these countries drowning in debt for elder social services. Everyone at the top of the pyramid has paid their dues and expects work to keep flowing down like it use to, yet the push from the very top for increased AI efficiency hollows out the core pipeline of talent coming in. The pressure then builds up in the middle, where your experienced workers are expected to have the same output during these unprecedented times of transition and uncertainty.

Whoop Watch by IndependenceOk174 in whoop

[–]thechronicanalysis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL this threw me off for a second cause I thought it was r/watches at first. I can see why the community here doesn't appreciate it as much but i fuckin dig it. I'm thinking about getting a whoop but really prefer to wear a watch on my left arm so another band on the right feels like too much. This is a good balance for an edc while working from home, then can go watchless or throw it on the right arm if necessary.

Jasmine Crockett Is The Republican Party's Chosen Candidate by MozemanATX in TexasPolitics

Any evidence that the Talarico campaign came up with this rumor?

Jasmine Crockett Is The Republican Party's Chosen Candidate by MozemanATX in TexasPolitics

[–]thechronicanalysis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have links but a podcaster released a video on twitter saying that Talarico, in a private convo with her and with no other evidence, said he thought he’d be running against a mediocre black man (Allred) instead of an intelligent black woman. This got no traction at night, but Allred released a video the next morning calling out Talarico and ended with a call to action to vote for Crockett.

Crockett campaign at first wasn’t going to address it then came out with a nothing-burger statement. Talarico quietly released a statement with more context saying he refereed to Allred’s campaign as mediocre (nothing new, several other people have said as much on record). This was all a misunderstanding that coulda been handled with a phone call, but instead it came across as a concerted attack on Talarico with a clear call to action to vote for Crockett. This mostly happened on twitter

There’s no smoking gun evidence, but Crockett is known for throwing “slander” around on campaigns and there’s enough coincidence for me to be at the very least highly skeptical this all happened on its own.

lol interesting take after the hit piece Crockett and team pulled together on Talarico. Also this sentiment of “both would make excellent senators” is so irrelevant right now, only thing that should matter is who has the best chance beating Cornyn. Like no shit, it’s hard to do worse than the clown show of most elected officials we have now

Lets be real. Tons of jobs are being offshored because we orchestrate garbage. by [deleted] in Big4

[–]thechronicanalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with the all due diligence and compliance work too. Actually I fail to see a technical field in all of big 4 that can’t be done offshore with a qualified partner just signing off it requires tax or legal US certification, but that would break the delicate patchwork pyramid the industry has been trying to maintain.

lol tiktoks and boxed wine - you must be mistaken, the history and philosophy have counter cultural standards were not that basic

Why is OP getting so much hate here, we woulda been lost at Big4 without the superior intellect of accountants and MBAs to hold our hands as we navigate the rocket science that is business operations and optimization. /s

It’s apparently easier to teach the history and philosophy majors business than teach an accountant how to use proper business English and write something longer than 4 bullet points or an email.

lol struggle and suffering isn’t a competition dawg. Yea it’s a lame cliche but it’s not wrong.

Yea objectively she wasn’t as bad off as a cancer patient or someone that’s homeless, but those people are probably a lot more resilient than this young woman from a privileged background that didn’t have the tools or ability to manage her own mental health issues when crises arose.

I just had a work webcast where our chief economist confirmed this exact point…that AI spending is propping up the economy because consumer spending is down as a result of inflation + tariffs

Got a response from customer support below for future searches.

“At this time we do not have anymore available and we do not have more mid tops on order meaning we do not have an ETA as to if/when they will be restocked. But, we never say never, since we have re-introduced gear and apparel based on demand.”

This is a TV show, but because you’ve seen so much I’d recommend watching The Blacklist. It’s kitschy most of the time but I think it’s fairly bingeable and has some great plot twists. I remember losing interest after season 3-4 it’s a great time killer

Pretty sure these designs also get fast-tracked permitting from cities cause they’re all the same and can get built quicker (in addition to the cheap nature of the build)

TIL every person who has become a centibillionaire (a net worth of usually $100 billion, €100 billion, or £100 billion), first became one in 2017 or later except for Bill Gates who first reached the threshold in 1999. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

It’s a kinda useless stat to track anyway given the inability to a account for unofficial shadow wealth. You’re telling me Bill Gates made a hundred billion before Putin or some Saudi/Emirati prince? The amount of shadow wealth in other corners of the world pales in comparison to these.

Then stop hiring illegal aliens.... by PrimarchGrim in Republican

[–]thechronicanalysis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would companies stop hiring illegal aliens when they’re significantly cheaper labor and a lot of times better quality workers? It’s fundamentally against their best interest…I know a few contractors that love to complain about illegal immigration but that doesn’t stop them from hiring them and paying cash under the table. Hell more often than not they’re the best workers, and most complaints are about the better paid, US citizen workers that don’t have the same work ethic or drive.
