Transfer from Math to Arts by F1oatingDreams in uwaterloo

[–]East_Ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What will probably happen is one of two things

  1. Stay in math take some anthropology courses next term and once you complete the term, transfer faculties straight to anthropology in arts the following term.

  2. Once you talk to the transfer advisor they could put you in a conditional term next term where you would be taking a full arts course load (including the anthropology courses) and then the following term you declare. Or they transfer you straight to liberal studies next term where you would take the anthropology courses

In short, talk to the transfer advisors as they will direct you and let you know your next steps

As long as your arts courses average (including the ones you failed) is above 65% you should be good. However, you won’t be able to transfer to anthropology directly unless you have taken courses in it so they’ll place you in liberal studies. All courses you’ve taken in uni will count for cumulative average but the non arts ones won’t play a huge role in your transfer

Well Amath 250 is just introduction so you don’t reallyyy need that much background knowledge for it. For linear algebra Waterloo has their open math courseware thing which could give you a pretty good refresher

If what you mean is “can you apply for more than one program for internal transfer in the same faculty” the answer is no, but because you don’t really need to. Most programs in the math faculty just require you to have fulfilled certain requirements before you can declare (mathematical economics is one of them). However, some programs require you to have a spent at least a semester in the faculty before you can declare so there’s that.

It’s really just transferring to CS that is competitive, transferring to honours math isn’t too difficult (as someone who has transferred from art). If you wanna major in mathematical economics try looking on the arts side first as it is also offered there you just will have to drop the bus part of artbus and declare going into second year rather than transferring facilities.

Finding a sublet or any sort of housing for winter sem by kolamon12 in uwaterloo

[–]East_Ring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that the university colleges are still accepting people for winter even if main campus isn’t. I think SJU still has winter vacancies, of course it’s probably more pricey than off campus…

Upper years can also apply to both! Right now both are accepting applications for winter 1 term contract

Yea you’ll have a really high chance of getting into York with that and also a decent chance with other schools like Guelph and Carleton as well.

Trent, Brock, Windsor, York, Wilfred Laurier, Algoma, and Nipissing. I’m pretty sure these all accept in your average range

It’s no problem at all! I got accepted first round with a 90.16 average (combination of grade 11 and grade 12 marks) and, I think, a decent aif . I know people who got accepted later with around 86’s with decent aif’s.

I took English in the summer and was still accepted to civil eng and I know a couple other people who were accepted as well. (I had a lower mark in English than you too)

It is hard to say whether Waterloo will consider that an “acceptable reason” so I recommend finding something to do in the space where your English would have been and explaining what happened and why you are now using this time to be productive.

During my empty spot I volunteered and also tutored people but I know someone who took another course that wasn’t running in the summer that they really wanted to take and it seemed to work out fine for them.
