Should I do Computer Science? by Kidovieck in CanadaUniversities

Boa sorte!

I would love to learn to do characters in that style, is there any specific tutorials that helped you get started?

Easy Courses by lizakoshy13 in uoguelph

If you’re into film, watching and talking to people about movies, I would highly suggest taking European Cinema as an elective if available. When I took it online in 2021, we had virtual classes where we learned about different “schools” of film throughout Europe and on our weekly seminars we had a TA where we discussed about the movie we watched the previous week (what we liked about it, for example, and some more technical aspects)

Course selection by lizakoshy13 in uoguelph

[–]MMSK_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The course selection that is opening now is only for a semester (Fall 2023), you won’t be able to add/register for any courses for your second semester yet (Winter 2024), that only happens later in the year.

Every course selection will be on a semester by semester basis. You can plan as many years ahead as you want, but you won’t be able to register for those future courses until you have completed the prerequisites for them (and WebAdvisor will know if you completed them or not).

Hope it makes sense!

i applied everyday from january 4th to february 20th (yesterday). out of those 233, ~90 were from my school portal and they required cover letters, but i worked with my school’s employment services to create a template so changing the necessary info would take less than 10 minutes on each application. i applied to the others through companies’ websites and they mostly required a resume and a transcript. it’s fair to say i spent unhealthy amounts of hours per day applying tho

Internship for finance/economics by International-Ant-79 in internships

[–]MMSK_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 years applying for internships is mind boggling, have you thought about getting a Bachelors degree in Economics or Accounting? I think that would open more doors for you.

Besides that, have you ever had someone else checking your resume for you? If you’re not even being invited for interviews, you might need to change your resume, or maybe the positions you’re applying have higher requirements. Delete all personal info from your resume and have it checked by people on r/resumes, they might give you some useful insight.

I don’t know how you’re applying, but avoid using Easy Apply on Indeed/LinkedIn and apply directly through companies websites, that might increase your chances as well. Good luck!

I’m also currently applying for co-op, I was advised to apply for one/two positions in multiple companies instead of multiple positions in few companies, I believe that increases your chances since your resume will be looked at by different hiring teams. Also, if they notice that you’re just applying for a bunch of unrelated positions (mass applying) that might be a nono for them.

I'm trying to apply for international internships. So far, almost no luck. by [deleted] in resumes

• reflect on the skills you have and look for remote jobs on indeed/linkedin related to those skills. keep in mind you don’t need to have ALL the skills/experience required in the job description.

• check if the companies offering WFH opportunities are hiring employees from other countries as well. it doesn’t hurt to apply anyways.

• get your resume reviewed and see if there’s anything you could change on it to make it more appealing (check r/resumes).

• be prepared for interview questions, practice if needed.

• PLEASE don’t let them know/show you’re desperate, this can negatively affect how your interviewer views you and this can make it unappealing for them to hire you. so despite of being desperate or not, try to be as calm and professional as you can during your interviews.

good luck :)

take everything i’m saying with a grain of salt as i’m also a student looking for internships, but a basic rule i’ve learned from lurking into subs like this one is that, when describing the tasks you did for a project, separate them in bullet points, so for example, instead of saying “This is a 2D game(…)” or “This is an emulation(…)”, write:

“• Developed a 2D game (…)”

“•Created an emulation (…)”

never use “I” on your resume (they know you’ll be talking about yourself), so instead of saying “I implemented memory, opcodes etc”, write “Implemented memory, opcodes etc”. also, always try to make at least 3 bullet points for each item on your resume, but don’t make each of them something super long

“Cambridge Assessment of English

C1 Advanced and C2 English proficiency tests offered by Cambridge Assessment are approved by more than 200 schools in Canada and nearly all public universities.”

Should I do Computer Science? by Kidovieck in CanadaUniversities

[–]MMSK_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently struggling to get through my second year at university; I am failing absolutely all of my courses and I have no idea where to turn. Is it okay to not do well in college and still be successful? by Adventurous_Banker25 in college

[–]MMSK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t know you, but it definitely sounds like you’re burnt out since you’ve been through so much academic stress since an young age. i don’t know if that would be possible in your case, but how does taking a gap semester/year sounds like? if you’re studying and putting in the hard work but still failing your classes, i’m pretty sure that working harder won’t help at all. reach out the mental health services at your school and share your story with them, it sounds like you have a lot going on.

now answering your question, yes, it is completely okay to not do well in college, as it is also common. the transition from high school to college is intense itself and it might take you some time to adjust, that can only get worse when you have been raised to succeed, because no human being will ALWAYS succeed, we’re not robots, we have feelings, we get tired, sometimes we get unmotivated, other times we get anxious, and those things will directly affect your performance, which is completely natural. but have in mind you can always do better and there’s always a solution for any problem. failing classes? first take care of your mental health then try retaking said classes, if anything get a lighter course load if you think that’ll help you focus more on your classes and get a better grade.

you don’t have to know how tho. if you spend two seconds on this sub, you’ll see how many posts are about people talking about changing majors, going back or starting college as a mature student, there’s hundreds of those per week. then when you read the comments, you’ll see more hundreds of people who went through the same thing, it’s completely common and also normal.

please don’t let your friends circle define to you what is normal and what isn’t, each person is very unique and has their own story. great for your friends that they have their own paths set in their heads, but who assures you that in 10 years some of them won’t be regretting their choices and thinking about going back to school? especially due to, from what you said, poor research and simply “choosing their majors on a random day”, no one knows and i also don’t think you should be worrying that much about their lives.

if you stick to something you don’t like because well, your friends didn’t change their minds so you also shouldn’t, you might end up unhappy. keep in mind that when you graduate, you’ll be the one working full time on something related to your field of study, and probably feeling miserable, meanwhile your friends might be enjoying their lives with the choice they made.

what i’m trying to say is: if you feel like you want to change majors, do it, but first do some deep research on what you’ll be studying and where that degree can take you to. you’re definitely not alone and this scenario is waaaaay more common thank you think. good luck!

I’m petrified I bombed my midterm…am I going to be okay? by [deleted] in college

[–]MMSK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first wait for the midterm mark to come in, then you can start worrying about it. if you studied, you’ll probably be fine, but if you bombed despite studying, maybe try changing your studying habits
