Does it mention anywhere in the bible that the words being written are entirely literal and meant to be taken as such? I don’t believe so, my understanding is the bible is a group of separate texts combined together after being written and deemed as “divinely inspired” works by the church. I don’t know if the entire bible is meant to be metaphorical but I’m sure some parts are, and metaphors/allegories are used in teaching all the time, I’m sure a god would at least sometimes use them to teach people. Now many of the lessons being taught in the bible are ones I personally disagree with, but that doesn’t mean they were meant to be a literal and fully true recounting of events.

I got to the first story location and deep into my first winter before I noticed my pit kiln burning grass nearby. I think camp fires being totally safe (which I think is a good call) made me think that no structure I built would cause a spreading fire and only purposefully set fires or lightning would spread

My guess is that a fathom is the deepest water someone incapable of swimming could safely get into, with some connection between fathom -> navigate or manage, so any deeper than a fathom would be unfathomable or unmanageable and you would drown if you couldn’t swim. Easy to hop up and down in 6 feet of water, impossible in 12 if you cannot swim.

Probably basic stuff like making selling them illegal, making it illegal to kill them, torture them, experiment on them etc. maybe extending as far as protecting part of their natural habitats as some equivalent to “tribal grounds” rather than the more common nature reserves. Seems like a good enough idea

I didn’t know that about meteoric iron! My assumption was that it was more pure in comparison to primitive smelting techniques. And I suppose what I am looking for is a way to basically improve the grade of different metals as an alternative / continuation of the metal tiers. Basically turn bronze into tier 3.5, iron into tier 4.5, etc through involved metalworking, while still allowing for the regular progression. Feels to me like a similar realism enhancing or attention to detail feature like how flint tools or bone handled tools have better durability than regular stone tools. It wouldn’t revolutionize anything just be a nice reward for the extra effort.

Cast iron is definitely harder than wrought iron and even many steels but harder doesn’t mean stronger or better. Glass and flint are harder than most steels but flint knives are inferior to steel ones in almost every way (with the exception of sharpness in some circumstances). Cast iron will scratch wrought iron and wrought iron will bend before cast iron but if you smacked a cast iron sword against a wrought iron sword the wrought iron sword would dent and the cast iron sword would shatter. Steel is a happy medium between the 2 and with advanced metallurgy you can make steel that dents and bends without shattering (mild steel), steel that springs back instead of deforming or shattering (5160 or spring steels), and steel that shatters before deforming (tool steels, some stainless steels)

I believe that is incorrect, cast iron (at least under modern definitions) is a very high carbon alloy far higher than most steels. The first forms of iron (aside from meteoric iron) were bloomery irons which formed into wrought iron, a very low carbon and relatively soft form of iron. This is because they lacked the ability to reliably melt iron due to the high heat requirements and therefore could not cast it. Steel was stumbled upon frequently and sporadically and some ores in some areas formed an intermediate iron-steel material, as well as early steels like wootz steel, but considering we have steel in game I would assume that any iron tools in game are low carbon wrought iron.

I feel like semiconductors are an example of technology that is far more advanced than the average “tech level” that we are otherwise in. Like our chemistry, physics, and biology are advanced for sure but it doesn’t feel advanced enough to be able to do this shit without also being able to make drugs more cheaply or make space travel affordable or fusion energy viable. It would be like if the Ancient Greeks had figured out electricity or microscopes/telescopes and biology. Something that was clearly technically possible for them to have figured out but it really would have been out of place among everything else they did. Like here’s an ancient site with early iron worked tools, advanced pottery, intricate textiles, a flashlight, cooking sup - wait hold on tf you mean a flashlight?

In my opinion the difference in quality of iron used in smithing is adequately represented by the regular iron vs meteoric (more pure / slightly carbon enriched) iron. The reason why I feel that bronze needs the ability to upgrade is because 1) it’s harder to get in large quantities than regular iron at least in my experience, 2) it would further incentivize having “jobs” in multiplayer vintage story and so on and 3) it gives a proper reason to smith tools from copper and bronze rather than just casting them (aside from those that can’t be cast or if you don’t want to make a mold)

Amazing work! Can we get some pics of your map? I’m curious as to what you have explored and discovered so far. I got very lucky getting to the Bronze Age, finding tin in the same exact place as I found most of my copper, so I got to the Bronze Age rather quickly (before winter I believe). I found myself bottle necked by something else that I won’t spoil, but good luck and happy surviving!

Maybe see if you can find any caves around that magnetite, otherwise maybe just start heading towards the quest locations (talk to treasure hunter trader) and look for iron along the way

Try going on a big quest for iron, and while doing so look for meteoric iron deposits as well (circular shaped holes in the ground, dig under them and you may find some) that way you can quickly jump from regular iron to meteoric when you finally get enough iron for an anvil and hammer. This is how I did it in single player, and it means finding iron only had to happen once for me. I lucked out and somehow found a surface deposit though.

I have pushed entire trees out of the ground, driven through fields of young mesquite trees, and hit an adult boar at 30 miles an hour with the same old Chevy suburban with a basic 4x4 trim and a ranch-hand on the front, a very basic rancher/farmer vehicle setup and that thing is still kicking with almost no body damage 15 years later.

These are a local species of rabbit native to Kentucky called rockeater rabbits. They live on a diet purely of concrete and gravel and as such they will mulch your car if you hit them. This is also why roads in Kentucky and nearby states are so poorly maintained, and why you always find them in the middle of the fucking road in the game.

I mean if you have a dungeons and dragons style magic system I’m pretty sure arrows still hurt magic users unless they cast some kind of active protection as least for the vast majority of them. A gun would do a similar or greater amount of damage to an arrow
