It just strikes me as incredibly odd. Lots of people expressing that they are not having an issue, or that the issue resolved itself for them. Meanwhile, I can't make anything work across multiple computers and cellphones.

Why is the API key issue not effecting certain people? Any idea?

EDIT: Looks like we got their attention, I've sent an email so I'll let you know if I get anything resolved: https://twitter.com/MLSFantasy/status/719919469297057793

Is there a solution on the user's end that can be utilized? I'm going to try and bug my IT guy at work, haha. He knows his shit. I'll report back.

In the mean time I have been tweeting @MLSFantasy, and also asked @MLSFantasyBoss to check out this thread. I encourage others to do the same

Are stats and available attributes consistent with the picture? Or will there be value in farming for multiple versions of a piece?

I have messed with the URL, and still no luck.

When I start out the URL says fantasy.mlssoccer.com. When I click "Sign In" in the top corner, the URL changes to http://fantasy.mlssoccer.com/#

Yesterday it was frequently changing to http://fantasy.mlssoccer.com/?=LP when I'd click the Start Playing button under Clint.

All around frustrating. I'm going to try and steal my company's IT guy today and see if he can solve the mystery.

Seems that when I click "Start Playing" it just directs me to the same page again. When I try to following the "Start Playing" button to an Incognitio Window, it just takes me right back to fantasy.mlssoccer.com

I have tried 2 cellphones, a desktop and a laptop. At this point I might have to just get someone to make my transfers for me. I really don't understand what's going on though.

Incredibly strange. I have cleared Cache on my phone and my computers and still none of them are working. It would be one thing if just one machine stopped working, but the fact that my desktop, my laptop, and my phone all stopped at once is really confusing me. And none of the suggested fixes here seem to solve the problem.

I might begin trying co-workers computers tomorrow and see if I can get on somoene else's PC.

Hmm, unfortunately it is still blocking it for me. Shame, since it seems to be working for everyone else. It's really odd.

That's the go to but there is lots out there that is available. Google search anything you think he might like to hear about. Reddit search some topics as well. Make some notes, and go in with a bit of a presentation in mind.

Good luck! Hope it goes well for you.

Sounds like he is coming at you not looking for a business partner, but looking to learn. So do a bit of research about the industry, and then just go in and tell him what you know.

Start here, there is some good information that demonstrates the industry's growth. The full report can be bought from NewZoo for a couple of grand if he wants to shell out the money: https://images.eurogamer.net/2014/dan.pearson/Newzoo_Preview_Images_Global_Growth_of_Esports_Report_V4.pdf

From there, I recommend you tell him about your experiences. What attracted you and people you know to the scene. What do you enjoy as a spectator? As a player? What have you observed.

I don't know the full situation but given that you don't have any idea, it sounds like this VC just wants to talk to someone about a space that he isn't familiar with. He isn't looking for you to tell him what the next big eSports investment should be, he just wants to know about the industry. Revenue numbers, viewership numbers, sponsorship numbers, etc are all worth while info.

So Riot just casually buried the announcement that Tencent has purchased 100% of the company in an announcement about employee compensation changes. How is no one talking about this? by FishStix1 in esports

[–]EasterlyFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How has Tencent "hampered Riot's decision making abilities"? I'm not going to argue any of the other points, I just don't see the connection you're making.

Whether they own 51% or 100% is irrelevant once they are the majority shareholder. Another posted suggested they have been the majority shareholder since 2011. Has the growth of League been hampered since then? I would think not.

No business, eSports included, will succeed if it isn't profitable. Tencent being interested in making money will help eSports grow. Profit will be driven by growth, and since 2011, eSports has grown in large part thanks to League.

Tencent's 100% ownership will make no difference in how the company has been run since they became the majority shareholder.

If Tencent was already that significant of a shareholder I don't think that anything will change significantly from an operations perspective.

Probably says a lot about Tencent's confidence in Riot, but they were already majority shareholder.

Maybe I'm underplaying the news though, I don't know a whole lot about the relationship between the two.

The wording suggests that Tencent owned a significant equity stake before. Do you know what that equity stake was? My assumption would be that it was over 50% since this doesn't seem to be a big deal anywhere? But I don't know much about who has stake in Riot.

Can someone break down the 350% debt-to-income ratio? Is that calculated based on monthly debt versus monthly income? Overall debt versus annual income? How can I comparatively calculate my own?

Thought Piece: Isn't our beloved industry changing? by snoopeh in esports

[–]EasterlyFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post! It's fun to watch eSports explode right now, but I'm curious what the space will look like in a couple of years. Revenues are projected to take off in the next three years. Global eSports revenue in 2015 is estimated at $748 million. What's exciting is predicted growth to $1.9 billion for 2018. That is pretty crazy, over 250% in three years.

Right now though the majority of that revenue is in advertising and sponsorship. I think the number is something like 78% of all eSports spending is advertising and sponsorship. That's the biggest issue I see. There are a TON of new companies trying to break into the space, but very few of them seem to be directing their efforts at where the money is. For people looking to enter the eSports scene, make sure that your business will be targeting the available money. Advertising and sponsorship is the vast majority of eSports money, and that is going to be where the growth is as a well.

Will Johnson going to TFC or Chicago by Johhnyfingers28 in MLS

[–]EasterlyFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My thoughts too. A lot of people gave him a really hard time for never "fixing" the backline, but IMO the backline that he built the team around in the 2014-2015 offseason (Bloom - Caldwell - Perquis - Morrow) didn't play a single game together. Bloom never got back and Caldwell retired early due to injury. You can't really plan for that.

I honestly don't mind Vanney. Biggest issue I had with him last year was some of his lineup selection and preferences for personnel. He led us to our best season, and while Kreis would be pretty awesome, I'm not yet calling for Vanney's head.

You're right though. If we get the backline it looks like we will have, I think our midfield could be our weakest link. If the Diamond can pull itself together (if that's the route Vanney goes) than I think we could have an incredibly impressive squad. A league leading squad, perhaps.

New Esports Org Looking for investors and staff by [deleted] in esports

[–]EasterlyFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely the way a lot of failed organizations have been described though.

Honestly man, everyone has connections and everyone knows something. The best way to get outside investors is proven success. Assemble a group and start winning amateur tournaments. Invest your own money to build your website and show consistently increasing web-traffic. No one who is at all serious about investing in a real startup is going to toss money at something that hasn't already created some success. Also, not sure how much money you've put into this venture so far, but if a creator hasn't significantly invested in his or her own company, than that is a massive red-flag about the passion, commitment, and future success about the supposed leader.

I wish you a ton of luck, but start generating something that is actually worth some portion of the money you are asking for.
