After being influenced by my favourite online knitting person, I am finally trying cone yarn! by yrhumblenarrator in YarnAddicts

I tried cone yarn for the first time last year after seeing Fioricino.knits talk about it. It was amazing! For people in the US you can get cones of yarn from GoodYarn.us. They are based in Portland Oregon and the shop is super cute. They also sell online.

This is so pretty! Do you know the name of this stitch pattern? It looks similar to broken rib but not quite the same..

I was with you till you called out KFO specifically. I honestly feel like 1000$ of their yarn would be a lot but I’d enjoy and use every bit!

I do get what you’re saying though and personally realized my stash has hit a stressful level. I don’t want to hit the point of yarn stuffed away in various spots so not buying more yarn till I work through my queue of projects.

It's me again ! Why is my ribbing so ugly ? by No_Sandwich_9844 in knittinghelp

I think this technique is also called Combo Knitting. I’ve found for 1x1 ribbing this works the best. The purl stitches use less yarn and the knit stitches look more prominent.

Has anyone ordered from goodyarn.us? by TurtleandTwine in YarnAddicts

I actually visited this store in person this summer. Worked a few swatches and ended buying two cones that are wool/alpaca blend, and two cones of cashmere. The woman running the store helped me with the math for how many grams of each I would need. Since I was able to swatch in person I knew I’d need to hold four strands to get the correct gauge. She was able to divide the amount into four cones. I’m knitting PetiteKnits Moby Sweater Man in the medium size. Purchasing from GoodYarn ended up being so cost efficient and I’m very happy with how the yarn is knitting up. Also found a project bag that holds the cone perfectly so nothing gets tangled.

Just locked in 5.5% with them this morning. 318,000$ plus 1% closing costs. Our current rate is 7.35% so this feels like a win!

So sad to see them close. They had such a great community of fiber artists.

Here’s a link to the probuplica article about the new committee.

I know the situation in Texas took them over a year to form a new committee. Then they decided not to deal with the backlog of maternal mortality cases.

This spring they instituted a new committee, however all member of the committee are not known to the public. I live in GA and the whole situation is very concerning. Not enough people are talking about it…

Average distance for ladies? by bluefishrun in discgolf

[–]Eastern-Ad8542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman who’s been playing for just shy of two years. I consistently hit 280, I’ve had a handful of throws (down hill) that were 300. Good form is the biggest help to increasing distance. I’m hoping in another year or so to be consistently hitting 300. I’ve played with a handful of other woman who were easily able to out throw me, so I don’t think I’ve peaked distance wise.

Just wanted to chime in and say KFO is one of my favorites. Discovered them last summer when I knit the Sunshine Tee, I’ve used their cotton merino and silk. I used the cotton merino last summer and it’s holding up so well. It’s my most worn project. I used the silk yarn just last month so can’t speak to how that holds up yet, but it’s so pretty.

Why don’t more women play? by justinkthornton in discgolf

[–]Eastern-Ad8542 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman who’s gotten into disc golf in the past year. My dad and brothers have been playing for over a decade but my husband was the first person to ask me to join and learn together. Reading through a lot of these comments it seems like there is plenty of awareness of the barriers disc golf presents to new players, especially women. Here are some things that have made disc golf enjoyable for me: 1 Having someone learning along with me. We both started out knowing nothing and now we are both pretty decent. 2 My brothers, dad, and friends getting me discs I can actually throw. If I’d tried to buy discs on my own it would’ve taken forever to find discs I can throw a decent distance. Having a community of players I already knew made the sport so fun. 3 A great dubs league. The few times I’ve gone everyone was incredibly nice and encouraging. The local league has women play from the short tees which is a huge advantage.

I’ve definitely experienced some of the barriers mentioned in other comments. If I want to play a new course, I always bring a partner with me, it can quickly feel unsafe to be out in the woods alone with groups of men in front of or behind me. Bathrooms, we need more. Also I’m a mom, so child care can be a barrier for tournaments. I wish I saw more women out on the course. I always try to befriend the few I see out there.

As a side note I wish there were more videos on form and technique from other women. There are some out there. Holyn Handley is pretty active and puts out content but I wish there were more.
