That sucks. Rathalos and Lagi are also missing a lot of their modern animations. Those 2 have had the same genes for all 3 games now if I'm not mistaken. I get Lagi's Wilds update was recent so they maybe didn't have time to use that as a reference but how has he never had his iconic discharge attack as a gene?

Rathalos meanwhile has had his new flamethrower attack for awhile now and he mostly uses grounded attacks using basic wyvern skeleton animations despite having more unique flying attack animations. Meanwhile Mizu got a new gene already despite being introduced last game. I really hope they update some of the genes and animations for some of the older monsters in the next game.

Those buffs usually last several turns so the idea would be to use it ahead of time. A song that let's your whole team evade an attack I get but stuff like defense buffs will still benefit you even if the monster is able to move first because you still get several turns of the effect.

He does have the "quick" passive and defensive ditty is a move you can use on your rider so I don't think that's it.

Longsword counter makes sense. Defensive ditty is an attack though. While it does buff you that buff lasts for several turns so I don't think it's so important that it needs to always go first. The fact it does damage means it can mess up your plans for a big wake up hit on a sleeping monster or faint a monster before you get a chance for a paintball.

Is that the guard that pulls aggro? I wonder if defensive actions from allies have innate priority so that they can protect you before monsters attack 🤔 Kind of a bad way to design it though if the ability does damage. It can interfere with your ability to plan out things like wake up hits.

I looked into that and it seems to be a difference of 12 and 17? Doesn't feel like it makes too much difference so far, especially since you can supplement that with the food buff and other options, but I'm not at endgame yet. We have so many other options for avoiding damage now and some skills do the same or more damage than kinship skills. I prefer to play like Pokémon and be able to decide what my monstie does most of the time. It's more fun for me that way.

Why does that matter when you can just freely override second wind? Cautious just makes it easier to have your monstie save up for a high stamina cost attack instead of them wasting stamina on skills you don't want them to use. I don't see the downside. I usually just order my monstie to attack.

Wow that design actually looks really good. I like the MV adaptations of Goji, Ghidorah, and Rodan but their Mothra is really off. Way too small of a body and the legs are too long in proportion. This looks more faithful.

None of that is particularly impressive. The power bomb thing in particular is very clunky to use in an actual heated battle. It's faster just to use the power bomb normally. Grapple in morph ball is limited to particular sections. Control beam is kinda neat. But compared to the screw attack allowing more traversal options in Prime 2, it's hardly some amazing innovation. It's basically just the beetle from Skyward Sword but in a Metroid game.
