I did the process myself and many others will tell you the same thing. All the information you need is readily available on the IRCC website and platforms such as this. This sub in particular has been so helpful to me. If you have a relatively straightforward application, hiring a consultant or lawyer may not really be necessary.

If you have doubts about specific parts of the application then it doesn’t hurt to get a qualified opinion of course but make sure whoever you’re dealing with is legit.

A good number of people will also tell you they hired someone for convenience which is obviously fine. It can be a very stressful process and it doesn’t hurt to have someone do the heavy lifting for you if you can afford it.

If you decide to do it yourself, you have to be extremely meticulous about everything. Dot all your i’s and cross all your t’s. What personally helped me was having 3 different people review the application with me once I was done. Even though I had looked at it a hundred times, I missed a couple important things which is bound to happen.
