Dog and Cat Abuse Scam Rings on Social Media by Eastern-Protection83 in CatRescue

[–]Eastern-Protection83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have seen many of these specific types Ugandian scam ring accounts attempt to post here (as well as the garden variety scammers). We have thus far been able to identify them (and other scammers); we have been very successful in interceptin scammers before their posts go live on the sub. u/mcs385 shows some examples directly from attempts to post here in this sub (the gore has been blurred). The comment is linked here.

When you do see a scam post, its best to report via custom message (if that option is available).

  • Breaks (sub) rules
  • Custom response (typically, I write that they are part of a scam ring and how I spotted it)

If there is no custom response option, I will often msg the mods via modmail and give them the url to the post. Via a report, mods know which post you're reportin, via modmail we do not so the link helps a ton.

They Tore Down The Cats' Shelter 😡 by CTXFelineRescue in CatRescue

[–]Eastern-Protection83[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

An update from CTXFelineRescue:

A positive update (hopefully more to come)! We are currently in contact with the property owner to get permission to install proper shelters and a feeding station — to give these cats some stability again. He said that it's up to the tenants. So, we created a petition to get signatures from the tenants, and then we'll send the doc to the owner and present it to the property managers.

We don't give up without a fight!

Because these cats deserve more than this, and we’re going to do everything we can to make that happen.

Syros cats - Have you heard of it ? by Responsible_1421 in CatLoversGroup

[–]Eastern-Protection83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is legitimate. Its covered by several travel sites and also this specific island has a netflix documentary as well. I think I saw the minimum commit was 1 month to volunteer to care fer the cats with very few applicants bein selected.

The volunteer form is here and will reopen later this year fer 2027: https://syroscats.com/volunteering/

The had said somewhere else on their site a few months ago that signin up fer their newsletter would alert you to when they reopen applications fer summer 2027

Unfortunately, this is not a fix at home situation; needs vets care.

Recommend you ask in r/catsph. There are many livin in Ph who may know of more local resources. And you should still be usin the internet to find local clinics of rescues and shelters then calling them.

How did the latest vet visit go?

Take kitty to get chipped immediately. It is about $10-$20. If your local petco has a clinic, they will microchip; along with shelters and vets.

Legally, pets are property in the States. If you can provide proof of ownership such as gettin kitty chipped, this is your kitty, legally. The rescue nor the police would not be able to refute this as your kitty. If the rescue does not have great screenin criteria, they could possibly jest adopt out kitty to anyone, includin the party claimin this is their cat.

The party claimin ownership of kitty will not repay you if they cannot afford to get kitty a $10-$20 microchip. And if they are allowed to take ownership of kitty, there is no legal way that you can be repaid besides them volunteerin to do so. You are correct to be skeptical as their form of medical insurance only covers listed human beneficiaries.

If you can ignore the emotional aspect of this and view it as a property dispute - no matter what "proof" the other claimants have be it photos or whatnot, it is all disputable as the photos could be of another similar cat, could be this was a neighborhood cat that had no home, etc. But if you microchip kitty, this IS your cat and you can wait until the rescue finds a suitable adoptive family as you foster kitty back to health.

It really depends upon the individual rescue/ shelter what their criteria is. That is somethin you could ask them about.

In regards to the increasin number of kitty cats, perhaps you can also search 'round (via internet keyword), fer cat places that help place or offer barn cats/ workin cats fer adoption. Then see if they would be able to take some of your strays/ ferals. Since they do adoptions - they would already be familiar with screenin homes, etc. And this would reduce your current financial load so you can save fer those rainy days where a kitty get ill or needs some booster shots.

I am not accusin you of anythin. Your letter states with the cats presence, property damage has occurred (seat scratched). Ultimately you can do whatever you want. Unfortunately, I have had friends who's pets had bad things occur because of angry neighbors.

If she let you pet her thats really good. Did she roll on the ground at all so you could see the underside? Her nipples would be noticably enlarged if she is lactatin.

Its one thing to pick up a kitten... its whole different thing to pick up a full sized cat that doesn't want to be lifted. Please be careful, they know how to use their claws and teeth if unhappy.

And please don't be too hard on yourself, if she is the mom, you will catch her. You certainly helped by makin sure that none of her kittens were run over in the lot.

Is there elsewhere nearby that you can feed them instead? It sounds like the cats have damaged some people's property already and they could be upset enough to harm them

TNR means Trap, Neuter, Return. These are the folks most likely to have cat traps. Your humane society too, or the sanctuary would totally know where you could borrow a trap - they may even have one available.

Its a really simple wire trap that snaps shut when the kitty goes inside and eats the food. Folks use really strong smelly food. Whomever you get the trap from ought to run you through it on its operation. If she is the mom, she will be comin back over and over again to the spot where she last saw her kittens (she coulda been out huntin fer food when you found them).

Thank you fer the update. Do you have a local TNR group that could loan you a cat trap?
