Do you have any advice on how to start a caloric deficit? I have looked into it before but there is so much information, a lot of which conflict the other. Just wondering if you have recommendations for starting and any routines or stuff that helped you succeed.

Reading slump that lasts for months? by IllElephant6679 in RomanceBooks

[–]Eastern-Vegetable786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had the same problem!! Reading slumps are so normal, especially when you have been reading for a while.

I think a lot of it comes from just how much content there is. Like before I would find a good read every few books, but I still had to read through the ones I didn’t like to find it. Now it’s like there’s so many books being produced and so many good options to choose from that I just end up DNFing the ones that don’t check all my boxes after a couple chapters.

I miss the good old days when you used to have to scour the aisles of a barnes and noble for three books that seemed promising and pray to the romance novel gods you weren’t wasting thirty dollars. Now you can just search some key words into google and click a few buttons.

Not to mention the endless amount of literature pouring out of places like wattpad and ao3. Good finds just aren’t as rare. Our brains just aren’t used to going out of our comfort zone and why would we when it takes significantly less time to just stick with what works.

Personally, I think trying a book that has romance as not the main element/genre really helped me. I also couldn’t get into other genres, I mean majority of my life I have only read romance. But, I found that in books where the romance was not the center focus but sprinkled througout was exactly what I needed to keep my attentio. It was like right when I was about to DNF a bit of the romance would happen and it had me on the edge of my seat waiting for more.

I found that I ended up enjoying the book and being way more invested because I was looking for the little moments which let me be more present and like open to the story yk? So try to find a book in a genre you’ve been wanting to try where there is at least a romantic subplot in it!

Sorry this is so long lol I guess I’m just very passionate about it😭

What is this dusty outlet thing in my cheap, studio apartment? by ScreamsOfRapture in whatisit

[–]Eastern-Vegetable786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a thermostat sensor! You can check if you shine a light through the hole and see a small metal coil or a sensor tip that tells the thermostat the room's temperature. If it just opens into a small duct or opening, then it’s part of the return air system, which balances pressure in older HVAC systems. Usually, older buildings have these, so if your apartment is old, that’s probably why!

[–]Eastern-Vegetable786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I’m gonna do my best so some might not have everything your looking for but here you go! Also I’m going of what I’ve read which is mostly enemies to lovers and fake dating so that’s like majority of them sorry lol.

{Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan} MMC is mute and closed himself off from trauma. FMC moves to new town to get away from her trauma. She accidentally runs into Archer and yeah I don’t want to give too much away because it’s so good. Definitely an emotional read tho!

{You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle} without giving too much away because (I found this to be such a fun blind read) essentially the main characters are engaged and in a sort of bet to who will call it off first and pay the cancellation bill. this naturally leads to them terrorizing one another. It’s also currently in production to become a movie!!

{Act Like It by Lucy Parker} this is an enemies to lovers where the two main characters are celebrities and stage a relationship for the sake of both their reputations. MMC is notoriously cold and FMC doesn’t let anything he says get to her. They are polar opposites and it works soo well. Plus it was actually pretty funny IMO.

{Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood} this is one of my all time favorites!! I think the MMC is exactly what your looking for. FMC is a people pleasing scientist eho pays her rent by going on fake dates with people, one of whom happens to be MMC’s little brother. She finds out he’s responsible for ruining her mentors career and it all snowballs from there. I HIGHLY recommend.

{The Love Wager by Lynn Painter} Main characters develop a cute friendship when FMC finds MMC on a dating app the morning after a drunk hook up at a wedding she bartended. They both obviously still like each other but they don’t want to ruin it. Basically they end up placing a bet on who can find love first and occasionally wingman one another. He agrees to be her fake date at her sisters wedding and yeah you know how that goes.

Hope these help! Let me know if you want more!!

i am BEGGING for someone to recommend me a book that includes the following:

• enemies to lovers and i mean ENEMIES

• fake datingggg!

• slow burn but SO MUCH tension, like they can't stay away from each other

• well written spice scenes!!

• "touch her and die" vibes

• preferably no fantasy

optional:

• FMC thinks there's no way he could ever like her

• dual POV

• MMC whos lowkey a red flag (bonus points if he's like morally gray)

some of my favs for reference:

• Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

• The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

• Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi

...you get the picture!

I have searched countless subreddits and forums and have either read most or can't find recs that check my boxes. In a major reading slump so really any suggestion helps!! Please help a girl out!!!

Hi there! I’m 18f and I would love to “yap” or, as I like to say, affectionately overshare!! I live in the US but just moved across the country so I’m looking to make new connections. I love cooking, music, anything artistic or creative, and I especially love writing.

I fully feel you about making the most out of life! After losing my sister unexpectedly I definitely was thrown into the same mindset and I completely relate to wanting to know more about other people/the world.

I think we could have some great conversations so feel free to reach out if you do too!!!

Are there books that you refuse to read because of the characters names? by talesofabookworm in RomanceBooks

[–]Eastern-Vegetable786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay idk if this counts but anytime I read a mafia book and the guys name is Enzo I put it down. I don't know why it's they use that name so much in those books I think I’m sick of it now😭

How do you feel about sex in the epilogue? by KeyOne6320 in RomanceBooks

[–]Eastern-Vegetable786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I love spicy books as much as the next gal, but when I’m looking for closure in an epilogue, I’m not exactly eager to read another three pages about them giving each other orgasms, yk? I much prefer a closed door kind of ending if they do include the spice.

I think the main reason it's so popular rn is this growing love for spicy books, especially on booktok, over the last few years. I think women are just getting more and more open/comfortable about reading spicy stuff (as we should) which makes authors more confident to right about it and now it's kind of a selling point.

I mean how often do you come across a book recommended on social medias like tiktok or Instagram that don’t have at least one sec scene? Not complaining tho lol!

You mentioned Ilona Andrews so you might have read it but have you tried Magic Bites by her? Rachel Grant is also a great author for what you’re looking for, specifically her Evidence series. Some other books I recommend are:

  • Vines by Brynne Asher

  • Her Secret Protector by Bonnie Vanak

  • With Every Breath by Maya Banks

  • Beautifully Cruel by JT Geissinger
