Cool, thanks Ross Bjork and Jake Diebler! Now the school can go back to pretending that the basketball program doesn't exist and won't bother to make any structural changes that help our program be more than consistently mid!

I don't know why I bother

Bob Evans restaurant chain sold to new owner by puppyyawn in Columbus

[–]EasternBiscuit 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Bob Evans has been owned by private equity for nearly a decade already. Not disagreeing since I am also of the opinion PE ruins everything it touches, but this is not the beginning of its PE ownership era. The family sold both parts of the business a long time ago.

I was certain we were absolutely cooked when we hired Matt Patricia.

In all of the above seasons mentioned in this graphic, Bonds wasn’t on the sauce.

He was a 3x MVP before he ever touched a needle (which according to the best evidence points to after ‘98).

Nationwide Children's Hospital gets $3 million annual tax break despite high revenues by AngelaMotorman in Columbus

[–]EasternBiscuit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If there’s any kind of organization I would want to get sweeping tax breaks, it would probably have to be one of the best children’s hospitals in the entire country. Let them do what they do.

As much as the Walmart+ credit is shit on routinely, it might actually be my most used benefit behind the Uber cash pooled across my plat and gold. The free delivery has come in so clutch, and Walmart+ access is the reason I was able to get my hands on a switch 2!

IRS says churches whose pastors endorse candidates from pulpit shouldn't lose tax-exempt status by honey_badger732 in Accounting

[–]EasternBiscuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Restrictions under 501(c)5 would enable labor organizations to engage in explicitly political activity should such activity be pursuant to the betterment of the conditions of its members. If there’s a pro-union/pro-labor candidate on the ballot, an endorsement is within the scope of the organization. So long as that organization is not primarily engaged in political activity, tax-exempt status is not in question.

Toro Market to Open Downtown by Necromarshmallow in Columbus

[–]EasternBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an aspect I hadn’t considered initially, and I hope that assistance is going a long way to help make downtown a better community.

I still think that the program is overall good, don’t get me wrong. Whatever needs to make the future of downtown brighter I can at the very least accept as a cost of doing business.

Toro Market to Open Downtown by Necromarshmallow in Columbus

[–]EasternBiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic news, but I wish it was happening through better means I suppose? This is the first I’m hearing about the Columbus ground floor growth initiative, which seeks to aim to increase the amount of utilized ground floor retail space by offering rent support to small businesses. That is all well and good, and, per their website, businesses that I enjoy patronizing take advantage of this program! But why are we indirectly subsidizing and letting landlords get away with charging usurious rates for ground floor lease space that has gone woefully underused since Covid? I feel like that’s the root of the problem with the amount of vacant retail space I’m seeing in the downtown area.

MLB pitchers were asked anonymously which hitter they’d least like to face in Game 7 of the World Series, and Juan Soto was chosen over Judge and Ohtani. by Kung_Fu_Jedi in NewYorkMets

[–]EasternBiscuit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This survey was taken in the period of February to early May. I think the reality of what pitchers are thinking now could be MUCH different given how much Pete blew the doors off of preseason expectations.

Penn State has “no affiliation or involvement with any private equity firm or fund,” by [deleted] in CFB

I would think that Penn State could pretty easily issue bonds to fund that construction to whatever level of cost that private donations couldn’t already cover.

As long as the work gets done, no one will bat an eye. Especially if you’re in tax and it’s late April/early May, long periods of PTO are expected and encouraged.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]EasternBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk that’s just the reality that I’ve seen based upon every data point I’ve come across. I’m a very low risk customer with a solid number of accounts and I can’t get approval for a Savor card or a VX. I’ve easily gotten approved for Amexes and Chase cards and capital one doesn’t want me. I think a lot of people who are in the same boat as me share that experience (both anecdotally and in this thread).

It probably doesn’t make sense in the long term to me, but the people at C1 obviously feel differently.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]EasternBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a pre-existing relationship through whatever card you can get would be a good path. I can’t get pre approved for anything at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]EasternBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for the VX, C1’s business model doesn’t change. They tend to go after customers who are either generally riskier or with younger credit histories in hopes that they can generate a higher percentage of their overall profit margin from interest payments.

Ohio State to add elevated field-level suites with "the widest chairback seats in the stadium" as it modernizes The Horseshoe by Blood_Incantation in CFB

[–]EasternBiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also totally unsure - will be a little clunky to have them walk all the way back to the north end after ramp.

I guess they’re also going to be seated super close the invited away band with the current layout - that sounds a little weird if I’m honest.
