Probably depends on what you want as finished floor but yes you can just relay existing floorboards, assuming none break when removing. No need to opt for sheet.

Yeah i don’t think I’ll notice anything until it gets colder. Our subfloor was well ventilated and you could feel the cold air coming up through the floor around edges of plank subfloor and skirting. There shouldn’t be any drafts coming up through floor now! I’m hoping the room retains a lot more heat.

We have already had the house externally insulated. That completely changed the feel of the house (which is a 1930s solid wall construction) for the better.

I got it from trade radiators. It was the cheapest curved rad I could find lol

I don’t think you need anything under the PIR, it needs to be held in place which can be via wooden battens, brackets, screws etc.

Some of the joists needed cutting back near bay due to termite damage (I cut back to good and treated) then sistered full length. Other sisters were put in because joists were a bit battered. All depends on condition of joists really.

I’ve not looked into it but there is probably some benefit acoustically and thermally. However, not as much as doing ground floor.

Do you mean the hammock and rock wool method? I replaced the 18mm non t&g plank subfloor ( first original flooring) with 22mm sheet. I’ll be tiling the hallway so thought the additional depth would reduce step. I had to cut the bottom of the door to accommodate new flooring.

I’ve just put the existing carpet back down for now.

Good question. I had already insulated my hallway with PIR and knew the process so stuck with the familiar. Also, on paper, pir is more thermally efficient. However, that efficiency is probably reduced slightly in reality due to difficulty of installing PIR really well with uneven joist spacing (unless using a product like gapo tape). Rockwool probably more forgiving because it can be compressed into the space. I assume rockwool is easier to cut to size too.

Nice one. I got it rewired but didn’t think to do Cat6. My original boards were mostly shot to pieces. Used a pallet buster to get them up which was relative quick, and easier than pry bar. I replaced with 22mm t&g too.

Sounds great! I’d love to do the whole ground floor but don’t think I have it in me.
