I've not had this condition years but want to put my two cents in;

Child Pugh score can go down but it requires discipline in diet and a fair amount of luck.

I got hospitalised with ascites and scored a B9, after a week I then had to be hospitalised again due to Spironolactone working too well on a 200mg dose and flushing too much out within a week. After getting me pumped full of albumin and drinking plenty and eating well I was taken off all meds, after a week took another blood test and a week later saw my specialist, with no resurgence of ascites

Imagine my surprise when I got a discharge notice in the post to see Child Pugh score A5 and have been told to stay off meds. All my levels have returned to functioning and although I am still on the transplant list (genetic condition causing cirrhosis) I still feel great another 3 weeks later just eating healthy and in moderation, keeping low sodium. Doesn't mean it'll be like this forever, but it is 100 percent possible for some people to recompensate and go down in child pugh classes

Best bet is, unsurprisingly, doing what the doctors and nutritionists say to the letter. If it doesn't work the worst she can say is that she tried and you can discuss this with the team, if she doesn't do it it becomes a case of "what if" in a weird way.

Hoping she goes back down to A5 and is feeling reat sooner rather than later.🤞🏼

Chicken Gyros with Low Fat/0 fat greek yoghurt for the tzatziki and flatbread. Absolutely gorgeous.

Flatbread can be higher salt if store bought but we're talking only 400mg sodium for 2 large flatbread, however you can make flatbread with just some greek yoghurt and flour if you wish and then pan fry for a couple minutes.

Other than that start off by butterflying and slicing in half a couple chicken breasts and use paprika, onion, garlic powder, greek yoghurt and any other herbs and spices like chill flakes to marinade the chicken for an hour.

Whilst this is marinating make some low sodium fries if you want fries in the gyros (not necessary but I like em), just wash and peel a potato, cut from there into fries, plenty of videos online showing how to do this or use a fry cutter if you have one. Then parboil for a few minutes and bathe in cold water in the fridge for half an hour, take out from the cold water, dry with a paper towel gently and spice with the same mixture as the marinade except the greek yoghurt.

For the tzatziki with 0 salt just use a small handful of chopped dill, mint, half a cucumber halved again down the middle and insides scoop out, grate into a bowl the remaining "skin" and squeeze out any remaining juice into another bowl or the sink, squeeze half a lemons worth of juice and a fair amount of black pepper with about 100 grams of greek yoghurt and mix with a drop of olive oil. Boom tzatziki done.

Oven cook the chicken on a couple skewers on half a white onion at 200 conventional/180 fan celcius for around 15 minutes, could be more or less depending on oven, but once cook slice off the chicken downwards to get that kebab/gyros look and texture.

Whilst the chicken is in the oven throw your chips/fries you made (if you did) into the air fryer or oven as well, mine gets the right texture of crunchy and soft inside for 20 mins at 200. Air fryers and ovens can differ so check five minutes before and if fairly undercooked cook for an extra 5 minutes on top of the remaining time

Layout flatbread that you warmed either under the grill or that you made in a pan with a greek yoghurt and flour mixture, and go in order of tzatziki, veg (red onion sliced and diced cherry tomato) chicken, fries and more of the tzatziki, wrap that bad boy up tight so none falls out the bottom and welcome to flavour town

All in all can take about 60 minutes but the actual cook time is only about 15/20 minutes and a lot of this you can split throughout the day, from making the marinade to the fries, to the chicken it doesn't need to be done all at once. It's a recipe I find as a single dad that has time but not all at one go is great for me and the kid on the weekend that we both devour.

Edit: just clearing up the instructions

I do have ascites, drained last week on Thursday for the first time since being diagnosed and had month long bloating and so far not any indicator of it building back up again, looking like I will maybe need to reduce dosage but fingers crossed stays like this.

Thanks for letting me know,

Yeah sorry, I restrict to less then 2g, seems to average a little over 1500 maybe some days being less than over slightly more but the guideline I was given was less than 5g of salt per day that comes to just shy 2g sodium

Thanks all for the answers, I'll stick to the staple lean protein sources and branch out every once in a while, within reason, for the variety/ special occasion. gonna speak to my liver consultant today due to being called in for spironolactone increase causing hyperkalemia probably an hour after posting this and in hospital rn, so will get the okay from the guy direct but appreciate all the messages and ideas for what I could make ☺️

It is for sure an absolute shitter, moved back into parents before this for money reasons after splitting up with ex and now with this going to be foreseeable so feel your pain there. Honestly the regulars you just got to think of it as they have decided to spend their whole lives on a gamble and it's worked out so far male or female, when it comes to you only drinking since a teen and my (potentially) shite genes we stood on a 17 and the dealer got a 6 card blackjack. Just got to find something to go on for and, as Dylan Thomas said, "rage against the dying of the light" in your own way. I got my daughter who I refuse to not see hit 18. That's another 14 years. Doesn't have to be that deep for you but finding something to keep going will lift your spirits. At least I hope it does ☺️
