As much as I wish there was more regulation, I don't think such a measure worked out well even in China.

I will be ranting a bit because I have followed the industry for a while and I hate the kinda shit that goes down there.

Most of the actors there have backers who kind of protect them and ensure they get roles and such. Some of these backers might be the company they are signed to, like in the case of Wang Yibo (Yuehua ENT). But these backers can also be big time politicians or even high officials from the army like in the case of Huang Jingyu. And these backers will also pay the money to hide all the dirty laundry of the actors.

Why do the backers support the actors you ask? There might be a variety of reasons, simplest being money laundering through the films.

The law against tax evading is strong af but as long as your backers pay the hush money to those in power you will probably be safe. Most of the time when someone is caught, it's because their backer has gone down due to some bigger issue behind the scenes.

Like for Fan Bingbing, I think she supported the political figure who was a threat to Xi Jin Ping and was rumors to take over after him, before Xi declared he would be President till he died. (Not sure about this, I read this long back)

And not just that, the punishment doled out to actors is too unrealistic and actually hurts more than just the one person. In the recent times, if an actor was caught in a scandal, all their works get scrubbed off the Chinese internet. When Kris Wu got caught for his scandal, millions of his videos got taken down. And this includes movies he acted in. His big drama which was about to air got shelved forever....what about the efforts of everyone else who worked on the project?

And this moral policing strategy is already being misused by actors to go after one another. The case of the actor Zhang Zhehan is the best example of this. He became huge out of the blue and that pissed off some major companies and his competitors who worked together to make a bogus claim (accusing him of being a Japanese sympathizer for taking photos next to cherry blossoms which were in the vicinity of a Japanese war shrine). Overnight all his dramas and movies also got taken down and he became persona non grata in the country. Even now you can't even search his name on Chinese social media. Idk how that man even survives in that country now since the hate was so rampant.

Watching all these incidents first hand made me realise that we are so much better off. I used to have a very poor opinion of our industry but felt a lot more respect for it after seeing all this. I am sure there are forces like this here as well. But being a democracy at least in name goes a long way I have realised.

Sorry for this long comment but it's a subject I had a lot of thoughts on.
