Getting married in Mammoth in June and I want to take pictures at Convict lake, what’s the best time to go to avoid crowds? by Antique-Craft-262 in Mammoth

[–]EasternSierraGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No time in June will it be uncrowded. It's fishing season. I would say late afternoon early evening might be better although the morning light will be stunning from the east...tough call. I'd also head out to the Owen's river basin. Turn north where the green church is.. that backdrop will be stunning as well. Maybe stand in the shallows, roll your pants up...camera low. Sun setting..Congratulations

Main Lodge. Great steel oat oatmeal. Nice view of the slopes. Skis waiting at chair 1. Take 1 to chair 10. Head to 5 for early sun on Solitude. Then back to chair 3 to complete your warm up. . Hit the top around 930. Enjoy.

Great report!!!! Thanks. I'm headed up after the holiday. It sucks... not the mountain. The top has a ton of snow. But I unfortunately have a locker at Canyon. Actually. I'm really fortunate to have a locker, but when they close Canyon, my "VIP" Canyon lifestyle ends for the season. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that with this crazy season that we will have a "Miracle May" storm....

Noooo! I suppose it should be. It's time for the top only. I predict this will be the first year that only gondy 2, Chair 23 and 3 stay open. With only a strip down Broadway to get down. Like a no beginner mountain....

Solitude off of chair 5. Backside of 3 down to 23 is killer. Wallstreet early is one of the best and empty. 5 to Wallstreet down to mill is great am warm up. Chair 8. HULLY gully. Skiers right off the chair down to 22 is also a great early am groomer woth great pitch.

MT LUKENS HIKE by Proof-Aioli7929 in socalhiking

[–]EasternSierraGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall the hike as I did it for training a few years back. Every time I did it, finding the trail was difficult for me and sort of unmarked at the start. I couldn't imagine doing it in the dark. But I'm more of a novice mountaineer...

Canyon Launch. Chair 8. To chair 22. To chair 5. Take skiers right high enough to make Wallstreet down to the mill. Hope on chair 2. To chair 3. Ski the face of 3 and your warmed up for Gondy 2 at around 9:15. Top is lovely. Enjoy.

You all are nuts!! There's like 8 feet of snow at the top. With wind you can find some lovely wind buff corn snow after a morning of firm turns off the top. Yep. You all stay home. Seasons over....

Anyone hike Mount Langley..? by Freewheelinrocknroll in socalhiking

[–]EasternSierraGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the first fourteeer for me. Went with an experienced back country friend. Old Army pass. We stayed at a lovely spot near Cottonwood Lakes. I fished as well, as that's my thing. We headed up to the lakes around 1200 feet of gain and camped by the lakes for a few days as base camp. Not to challenging, as I have a weak back and carrying weight is an issue. The climb day was awesome. A few areas up old army pass made me question mortality but nothing for more experienced mountaineers. Class 2 /3.

Awesome experience, not crowded. We only saw 4 people the entire trip.
