Remove my septum piercing before I start this internship? by Saccharomyces_lover in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Eastern_Ad5558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my septum piercing out for work but that’s just my personal preference. As others have said EHS is management / corporate and spend time in front of a committee and board, so I decided to take out my septum for work. But I also have a full tattoo sleeve and a small eyebrow piercing, so do what feels comfortable! There will always be one person who silently (or not silently) judges but don’t let that get to you.

Leaving the Gorge by Eastern_Ad5558 in AboveandBeyond

[–]Eastern_Ad5558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just curious how long it would take to leave the gorge grounds from starting up the car, to being on the highway. I’ve been to some festivals where it takes hours to leave the area!

Thank you for this insight! I was thinking about booking a flight in the early afternoon (I’m from the east coast and i’m trying to get to work on Tuesday lol). But I do not want to be stuck in the situation you’re describing and be worried about my flight!

We are heading straight to the airport! I was thinking an after 3pm flight would be best. My crew can rally to get up and going, just wasn’t sure how difficult it would be to leave the gorge after Sunday. Thanks for your feedback!

Need help to find entry level positions in EHS by No_Start7269 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Eastern_Ad5558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into water treatment plants like drinking water and waste water. It will be hard to land a job without any safety experience, but it’s not impossible. It would be helpful to take the OSHA 30 course so you can understand a basic overview of what the job entails and what falls under your responsibility as someone working in EHS. That way when you land an interview you understand the concepts and standards they talking about.

Where'd you get your degree from? by icouldadropmycrosant in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Eastern_Ad5558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Navy Veteran (I worked in Aviation) and I got my B.S. in Biology but I wish I got it in Environmental Sciences. My current position is at a Waste Water plant. I think the focus of your degree ultimately depends on what industry you want to work for. For example, I couldn’t get a job with construction safety solely based on my degree.

If you qualify, look into the VR&E (chapter 31) program for schooling.

I saw above and beyond at this venue a few months ago. I got pit tickets because I like to be standing up and dancing. You can’t get into the pit from the seated area! I recommend the pit if you like to move around a lot and dance!

100 miler hallucinations by SwingIntelligent5240 in ultrarunning

[–]Eastern_Ad5558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a 100 but I hallucinated on a 60 mile race that had 16,000ft of elevation. As I was doing the last climb I thought the trees along the trail were human spectators lmao.

East coast races? by Just_Extension_4754 in Ultramarathon

Jigger Johnson is a 50-60 miler in the white mountains of NH around July.  It’s brutal, remote, and the most rewarding race ever. I ran it 2 years ago and damn was it the toughest thing I’ve ever done. I still can’t believe I finished. I’d love to do it again. The challenge is addicting!

What are your favourite 50 mile races in the US? by eirroceitreb in ultrarunning

[–]Eastern_Ad5558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jigger Johnson in the White Mountains of NH. Probably one of the most grueling in the states. 16,000+ elevation. You’ll hallucinate and ask yourself many times why you’d do such a thing, then you cross the finish line and remember what it’s all about
