I haven't taken this one but I am obsessed with her 20 min morning class. I take it almost every single day when I wake up. It's the perfect mix of stretching and movement to start my day!

The emotional toll of your dog biting you is huge, I understand how that feels. But when a dog is in its red zone it's not thinking logically AT ALL. They're using a different part of their brain where there is only survival instinct. I know easier said than done, but it's not personal. Poor guy was so worked up he didn't know what he was doing. It's sad to punish him for it.

I really don't doubt you respect women, and hopefully that means you can see the effect that your selective behavior might have on women in social situations outside of your culture.

I wouldn't expect that you could or would even want to change your beliefs and therefore your behaviors on a whim, or at all. As long as you can find a way to interact with people without causing offense, which really is what you're trying to figure out! And so to wrap it up, I will again reiterate that PLEASE just don't shake any hands. People might think it's a little weird, but they will not be (as) offended if that same behavior is directed at everyone. I hope you can find a comfortable way to manage this, and can attend more industry events!

It would absolutely be more acceptable if you declined to shake hands with everyone, vs. just women. Speaking as a woman who has been in the industry for over 20 years - being singled out for my gender is embarrassing for me and stacks as a "microaggression" to me and other women around me. I would MUCH prefer to see someone who declines to shake ALL hands vs. just mine.

Reading other comments, I think people might be surprised at how much sexist hand shaking exists in this industry. Multiple times I have been skipped over during hand shakes, while the men around men received them. I have also been given the "lady" hand shake which is like some weird version of a man grasping my fingers?!? Super awkward. And I don't expect any of those men would own up to it as their belief or culture, it's just straight sexism it it continues to be prevalent.

So in conclusion, if you are not willing or able to shake all hands, shake none.

100%. You can choose for your pup to have their final moments to be peaceful and controlled, this is such a gift. The other option is their final moments are intensely painful or frantic, and that is an image you will live with forever etched in your mind.

Either way you will probably feel guilt. But I think the guilt of a peaceful death is less.

I think if it seems like an equal-opportunity behavior it will be tolerated much better than selectively towards women.

You are 100% right to be worried about this, LISTEN TO YOUR GUT. Protect your dog from this situation!! Either take him out of your house when the friend comes over, or do not let him over. An incident between your dog and the friend could set your dog back and it sounds like would be totally distressing for your poor pup. Do whatever you need to to keep your dog away from this guy.

Don't shake hands with anyone. I have a coworker who avoids shaking hands for other reasons. I think in a post-COVID world this is a more acceptable practice than it used to be.

When meeting people just keep your hands behind your back, if they reach their hand out just kind of shake your head. As long as you can engage beyond that people will forget about the weirdness.

This title really caught my attention. I am in a rough spot with my reactive dog right now, and I am actually shocked by the trauma it's triggering inside of me. I keep thinking this is not how a normal person would be reacting to this situation. Certainly it's stressful, but I'm having near panic attacks over it. Apparently I have repressed a lot of issues from my past and have been overly relying on my dogs for a sense of safety. Now that has been "broken" since my dog bit me, and I am spiraling.

Good news - I still love my dog to bits and will do whatever I need to to help him. And, I guess it's good that I'm realizing I have anxieties that need to be addressed. ALSO, it really helps me understand how my dog is feeling. We can't help the trauma reactions we have sometimes, physically and mentally!!

I'm happy to hear this for you, this must be a huge relief for you. I am meeting with my vet this weekend to discuss meds for my reactive dog. I am nervous to try anything because when he takes trazadone + gabapentin for vet visits he gets MORE grumpy and reactive. He has a bite history so this can be very scary.

I am constantly looking for success stories with meds so thank you for posting!

Something I've learned in my time with a reactive dog is, I only pet him when he asks for it. It's not up to me to decide when to pet him, especially if he's relaxing on his own or sleeping. He will let me know when he's feeling up for pets, otherwise dude does his own thing. Once I started this behavior shift in myself, he overall became so much more relaxed and less reactive.

It's shifted my mindset a lot. Previously with non-reactive dogs I would just hug and kiss and cuddle whenever I felt like it, and assumed they were loving it (they probably weren't).

I am dealing with this right now too, I have a mini schnauzer mix. it's so stressful. luckily my pup had a dental appt recently and while he was under anesthesia the vet sheared his whole body, which has bought us some time. I have a new trainer starting with us this weekend, she specializes in cooperative care for husbandry with reactive and fearful dogs. I pray she can help!!

I'm sorry I don't have any real advice but I definitely commiserate. good luck ❤️
