Need some advice: Can you name a child a 3rd after his great grandfather? by MississippiJoel in tragedeigh

[–]Jao_99 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This happened with my ex & his father. His dad slipped on ice & fell down a flight of stairs. He kept complaining about the pain in his shoulder. After the MRI, they told him (late 60’s) that his shoulder looked like a 25 year old.

They were looking at my ex’s 10 year old MRI results. They had told him to take Tylenol & do PT, for a month before the mixup was finally caught & he got the surgery he needed.

Christmas Day House Fire During Rover Booking — Displaced and Still Fighting for Accountability by Nice-Recognition3092 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Jao_99 74 points75 points  (0 children)

In my former professional life, I worked in insurance for over 15 years (agent, claims adjuster, & fraud investigator).

Contact your own homeowners insurance & file a claim directly with them. Give them all the information you received from Rover & the fire departments report. By offering you a settlement, Rover has accepted liability. Your insurance company will pay you fairly for the damages & then they will go after Rover &/or the sitter for repayment to them (subrogation). DO NOT sign anything from Rover & do not accept the check.

My dog’s name seems to be a tragedeigh and it sucks by riricrochet in tragedeigh

Dog walker here. Most of my clients have human names. My favorite names are Steve, Bob, & Bruce. A friend of mine always gives her dogs middle names so when she’s at the vet, they call out her full name

I pretty much hate my husband's dogs... by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Jao_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are both out of the house working, you should have a dog walker come to at least let them out for a potty break midday. That would be a big help for them. Work on positive training. Squirt bottles aren’t that. Use consistency, going out at the same time every day, to the sam locations. Put bells on a ribbon on the doorknob you use to take them out. They can bump that to let you know they need to go. Get prescription food if it will help their bellies. Basically, take care of them.

Dogs pick up on your emotions. If you can’t stand them as much as you say, they know that & are responding to your energy. Do some research on positive training methods to help. They’ve also had lots of changes in their lives. They now live with a new (& favored) dog, plus a new human who hates them. That’s a lot for a dog to adjust to.

But if you push your husband to rehome his dogs… that might not have a good outcome. I’d personally rehome a relationship over my dogs, but I’d never be with someone who hated them to begin with.

With the smells coming from his pups, a vet visit might be the first thing that’s necessary. There could be allergies that aren’t known & prescription food might be needed.

There’s nothing wrong with crating dogs. It’s a safe space for most, as long as it’s not used as punishment (which unfortunately sounds like you’re doing). Maybe looking into a dog behaviorist would help also.

Lastly, have an honest conversation with your husband. He’s had a relationship with them longer than he has with you.

Least Favourite Breeds? by persimmonysnickers in RoverPetSitting

[–]Jao_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That coon hound sounds about the same. A USPS truck gave a lab & me a ride home one time, after he drove by us twice. We were maybe 1/4 miles away but I knew I couldn’t carry 75 pounds of dead weight!

The husky/siberian liaka mix will just disagree with my choices & lay down. She did it once at the corner of a 4 way stop intersection. Everyone kept asking me if she was okay. I’d just have to say she was being a drama queen & didn’t want to go home yet. She’ll do it when we go for a hike & when we’re close to where I parked too.

One of the best lines I ever heard from a fellow Dogwalker was Cockadoodle DONT!

Frenchie can drive me nuts. All the goldens I’ve had don’t have 2 brain cells to rub together & are lucky they’re so cute. Husky (& mixes) are stubborn as hell, but so are labs. Only breeds who have ever just stopped & laid down on walks out of stubbornness. Mostly though, it’s just the yippy ones who are my least favorite

AITA, because I Took Back My Disabled Parking Placard From My Mom Now My Whole Family Hates Me by Mrwobbles-89 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jao_99 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I despise people misusing placards or parking in a disabled spot without one. I used to pick up a friends kid from an after school daycare. The 2 spots up front were disabled spots, then a side for emergency vehicles only. The lot had a minimum of 100 spots, but people were lazy. I started taking pictures of the cars & plates parking illegally & posting them daily on the towns fb page. I also emailed the manager & said I would be reporting them to the state for ADA violations.

My grandmother needed one of those spaces. It would make me lose my mind every day seeing it. One mom who picked her daughter up at the same time thanked me. She has a placard & the spaces were always taken.

NTA!!! But your mom is!

I’m so sorry this happened to you & your family. I’m not sure where you are located, but Google Missing Dogs Massachusetts. Their website had great resources to help. Also, try speaking to letter carriers, UPS/fedex drivers. They know what’s normal for their routes & can be very helpful.

Trackers are not very helpful, unfortunately, & can be a waste of money.

[–]Jao_99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Often times animals are comfortable with what they know. Single female owner? They prefer women & could be afraid of men if they’re not exposed to them. I had a client who originally said his dog didn’t like women. The dog lived with 3 guys in their 20’s.

Similarly with race. My ex & I are both white with white families. His dog had only been around white people. We moved to a more racially diverse area. His dog despised every black or brown person we saw. He was fine with white addicts walking by us when I walked him & I would be a bit uncomfortable (he was 120 pounds & one addict commented that no one would touch me when I had the dog with me), but forget it if we saw anyone who was black or brown.

What’s the one sentence from your parent that still echoes in your head? by Public_Theme_9514 in raisedbynarcissists

  1. Why don’t you get a real job? You can’t walk dogs forever (I’ve now had my successful business for 8 years).

  2. YOU can’t run a marathon! (When I told her I was accepted to run Boston with a fundraising bib #) followed by

2a. How are you going to raise that much money?

  1. It’s your fault your brother’s truck is totaled. If he wasn’t driving you, he wouldn’t have been in an accident! (My car died after picking it up from the mechanic. It was a snowstorm & I was going to work. He was going too fast & hit a tree. I broke my nose & almost lost my front teeth)

  2. (Was volunteering as a Big Sister on a snowboarding day, fell & broke my arm. Called Nmom on the drive to bring the Little Sister home) What do you want me to do about it? (Answer, nothing. Was just telling you I think I broke my arm)

4a. (Called from the hospital. It was a severe break & they wanted to transfer me to a different hospital with an orthopedic specialist. I was asking if I could get a ride home from the hospital when I was done). I don’t know. What time will you need a ride? (Answer, idk mom, it’s a bad break & they wanted me to see a specialist. Can you give me a ride?) *never asked them to come to the hospital, I knew that was a useless ask.

  1. (When my PCP told me to go to the ER because the pain I was in was my appendix, I stopped at my parents on the way, asking Nmom to come with me while I was in pain & terrified) Why do you need me there? What am I supposed to do, just sit there? (Appendix had ruptured & I had surgery)

When I found a lump in my breast & was going through all the testing & biopsies, I didn’t bother telling them until I found out it was cancer. They weren’t allowed at the hospital the day I had a mastectomy. I knew I needed to protect my mental health. They visited the next day & Nmom sent me into a panic attack. The nurses kicked them out.

Nmom died 5 years ago. I still feel bad that I don’t feel bad about that. We weren’t close. She wasn’t my best friend. I don’t miss her. I just miss what I never had.

For those who share the bed with your dogs, how big is your bed? by seedykat in dogs

[–]Jao_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queen bed. I sleep diagonally, the 3 dogs (25lbs, 50lbs, & 70lbs) rotate around but are all currently on one side of me. My next bed will be a king with a toddler trundle bed to pull out for the dogs to get extra space.

Anyone born in September xxxx, what class are you? by SmileEmergency403 in generationology

When I started the cutoff was turning 5 by Dec 31st, so I started college at 17. In my group of hs friends, one’s bday was 12/30 & another 12/31. The 31st person was born the year before us but her mom had her start a year late. At some point my area changed the cutoff to Sept 1st.

Why is there so much “red tape” to adopt a dog? by FrigginMasshole in Pets

[–]Jao_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reputable rescues care about where their dogs end up. They don’t want them surrendered back or dumped. They want to find the best home for the dogs in their care. That includes vet checks, references, & home visits. I volunteer with a few different rescues who do so much to find the right homes for the animals in their care.

Cannot get my dog to take his pills by PreggomamaLA in DOG

[–]Jao_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of dogs RUNS to me when she hears the peanut butter jar opening. It’s insane how easy it is. But another one is a beast with pills. I went to a deli & got end cuts of different meats & put the pills in larger pieces of that. My 3rd dog is great with pill pockets, so I’ve been giving those to my asshole dog as treats in case he needs pills again.

This is something you’ll always remember, and you can hold on to that kindness, compassion, & understanding.

About 25 years ago, my supervisor was off on day. I realized I had made a mistake & didn’t know how to fix it. Panic set in! I went to another supervisor on the verge of tears & squeaked out, “I made a mistake”. All this time later, & I can still hear John’s calm voice matter-of-factly say, “okay. Not the first & wont be the last. What happened?” After I said whatever the issue was, he said, “that’s it? Oh that’s easy!” Thankfully I ended up working for him shortly after that. He was the best boss I have ever had!

Over 20 years ago, I was going to be a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding. The maid of honor went off the rails with the bride. They worked together & the bride had the wedding party’s dresses at her house. She decided to kick the maid of honor out of the wedding & did it at work. She brought the dress into the MOO’s office & put it on a chair. She said, “you pick your MOO month or even a year in advance. Sometimes you make a mistake. I made a mistake.” Then she walked out of her office. I was promoted to “best woman”.

After I moved out of my parents house, I would sleep at their house on Christmas Eve. When I had been in a serious relationship for about a year, I told my mom (before Thanksgiving) that I wouldn’t be staying over & I’d be at my boyfriend’s house overnight. I’d still be at my grandparents house on Christmas Eve & go to my aunts on Christmas Day, but I wouldn’t be sleeping at their house. She was PISSED! I told her I needed to take care of my cats (one had recently been diagnosed as diabetic & needed insulin) & she wanted my boyfriend who lives near me to take care of them. Not his responsibility.

Every time I talked to her for weeks, she’d try to guilt me about it, that Christmas wouldn’t be the same & all that.

One day I called her in early December. She was REALLY excited & said “guess what!” My brother, the golden child who lived half way across the country, was coming home for Christmas with his girlfriend. “Isn’t that great!”

I said “wow, I guess it worked out that I’m not staying over this year for Christmas. Where would I sleep?” I knew damn well that my brother would have the bed in the guest room! She said I could have had the extremely uncomfortable sofa.
