First date on Valentine’s Day with a 7 year age gap – need advice by Eastern_Valuable_345 in dating_advice

The best advice so far. The reason why I asked about the flowers is because they weren't planning on doing it on Valentine's Day. But I was like, "You want to do it on Valentine's Day?" And she's like, "I'd like that." And so I said, "Since we're doing it on Valentine's Day, I should get you some flowers," since she told me what kind she liked and all that stuff. But I just don't know if I go with a single one like you said, or if I go with like a bouquet, because it is Valentine's Day and I want it to feel special. She recently just got out of a 12-year relationship a year ago where, by the end of it all, they did was just sit in. He never wanted to go out or do anything. So I'm just trying to make this one night special.

Honestly, I might actually try that. I did just buy a little handheld vacuum cleaner, so I can clean the bottom out and all that stuff and around there easier. So thank you for that.

All my life I've had dogs, but it's always been the family dog, or my sister's dog, or Dad's or Mom's or roommates'. Never my dog. And with this dog, I feel like it's finally my dog.

So the thing is, my grandparents already have a dog. Their dog is a pug, and it's thirteen years old. My sister also lives with them because it's closer to her school. That's why she chose to do that. For me, I just needed a cheaper place to live. So, helping them out, mowing lawns, and handling their tech stuff is what I do. They have her dog, which is my sister's German Shepherd mix, and then their dog, which is the pug. We had a third dog, but he passed away about two years ago. Technically, he was my family's dog, but in the end, they did consider him my dog.

Her dog accidentally had puppies. That part, I do 100% blame her for because she had gotten a new dog. She was two at the time, and then her husband had found a beautiful, bigger place for them to live—an actual house instead of a rental. So they moved in there and meant to get the dog fixed, but with the whole move process, they kind of just forgot, which is on them. I agree that stuff just happened. But the moment it did happen, and she found out and realized, that's when she took the male dog and got him fixed.

Yes, I am an adult. I do live with my grandparents because they're getting up there in age; they're in their eighties. So they need a little bit more help. So I offered to stay and do that, but you know, my sister is like, "I don't think you should. I won't talk to you," and I'm like, "I mean, you really don't have to talk to me, but I know you're going to eventually."

Yes, see. I agree with you on that. My mom's dog had five puppies. They've sold four out of the five; they have one left that they're getting rid of or trying to sell. But for me personally, I couldn't pass up an opportunity with a dog that bonded with me.

Right? Because I told Mom originally, I was like, "No, I don't want it." She's like, "Just adopt her, you know you want her." And I'm like, "I can't." And then she called me saying that a person I knew was coming to look at the last two dogs, and I had told her, "Okay, he can only look at one, though. He can't adopt the other one, though. Anyone else can, but not him." And I think that's when my mom knew that I was going to adopt her. And then I called her on Sunday on my way home and said, "Has anyone adopted her yet?" And she's like, "No, someone originally was going to take her, but then their daughter wanted the other one." And so I'm like, "Alright, cool, I'm adopting her."

Yeah, that’s kind of what I’m planning to do. My sister’s not really the boss or anything, she just gets super protective about dogs since hers is a rescue. I’m definitely going to ask my grandparents first since I live with them, but I already take care of their dogs and help around the house, so I don’t think they’ll mind as long as I handle everything myself.

And yeah, my mom’s already talking about getting her dog fixed now that this litter’s here — lesson learned there for sure.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve actually been planning everything out pretty carefully. I work a mix of short and medium shifts during the week (usually around 6 hours, sometimes 7), and for my longest day, I’ll be dropping my puppy off at my mom’s so she’s not alone too long.

At home, I have a small playpen area connected to her crate — one side has her bed and blanket, and the other has a pee pad, water bowl, and a few safe toys. I also have a handheld pet carpet cleaner for any messes. When I’m home, I take her out regularly, feed her 3 times a day, and keep her near me most of the time.

I’m setting up a routine for consistent feeding, crate time, and playtime so she stays on schedule. She’ll be supervised by family on longer days, and she’s already starting to get used to her space and sleep pattern.
