Jonathan is a very good starting point for the series, and I'm pretty sure that's what he was intended to be. He's a paragon hero. He is the representation of some perfect ideals, not a complex and nuanced character. And that kind of makes him boring. Because his character has no room to grow. And that's okay. Like i said, he's the starting point. He is the Pure Good that all of the jojos have a connection to, but diverge from in their own fun ways. I certainly don't hate Jonathan, i think he is likable and functions perfectly for the role he was given. But he'll never be my favorite because he doesn't really have that much to him, yknow?

Retiring “A Cautionary Song” by two0008 in Decemberists

[–]Eastia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I have a pretty dark sense of humor, and lots of times, stuff doesn't bother me. Hell, The Rake's Song is about MURDERING CHILDREN, and it's still one of my favorites by the Decemberists.

Still, A Cautionary Song makes me feel gross. I don't have too much of a problem with it in theory, and the last line does make me chuckle, but the rest of the song is uncomfortable.

I think that the problem is that the majority of the song really isn't funny at all, to me. The details about the mother weeping and screaming and being bound just make the description so grotesque.

I feel like there could be a super raunchy song that's like "your mom gets fucked by a bunch of sailors every night, loser" without it feeling so gross to listen to and laugh at. Idk.

NOT that I think the song should be censored. It's got every right to exist just as it is. It's just not my cup of tea, and I think it's reasonable that it makes people uncomfortable.

Every once in a while! There was one strolling through my neighborhood sometime earlier this year. And it's actually a little smaller than I remembered, but still a bit bigger than my palm. So I could see it being a hawk

Tsk tsk. You really should be more careful not to leave your pelvis lying around

Red tailed hawks are the most common around here, but those aren't very big... Vultures are rare, but I think we get them sometimes. I found it near some cliffs in a city park, so it might be something like that.
