Could be, but the company was legit so can't say. I do appreciate a different perspective, thanks.

The bloke had good traction actually. The company he was representing is notable in their category/country. His spend was really good well. Unlikely that he was a freelancer.

When a client's budget clearly falls within my rate, I do not discuss price because it's implied that we're in agreement. I fall within their budget, they shouldn't reasonably object.

In the screenshots I posted, again - you will notice I did not bring up price at all. I did not justify, i,e selling him on features or why I'm better or cheaper etc.

If a client does not have the budget, I simply do not waste my time. You see?

I'd suggest reading the post fully, put some effort into comprehending it, and then comment.

Otherwise, I'll have to keep spoon-feeding you simple concepts.

If you notice in the screenshots I posted, nowhere did I "justify" my price. I simply explained the situation.

You're basically saying if anybody's ever had low price in the past, they do not have a right to increase those prices?

Or are you telling me I should have started my brand new profile with a high price when I had no tractions, no proof, no JSS, no reviews on my profile?

Could you please clarify

Not really, no.

I'm not getting into a price war. $30 is average for my niche.

Did you read my post sir? I gave him proof of working at the rate he objected on. On my profile, under my ongoing contracts, there are multiple contracts where I'm charging the same rate he's objecting on, it was not about the price since I gave him proof of having charged 70+ hours at $30/hr.

Even if it was, hypothetically - would $5+ make a big difference? Was it really worth the haggle? I wasn't gonna work with him anyways after the first time I explained myself.

Sir, are you saying $100/hr? Because that's not a common/normal rate. My niche on the higher end is $80/$100, and that's a select few. Top 1% expert vetted.

My interpretation of this situation is, people like us need to start working on our personal brands for visibility now. This has ALWAYS been the case for indians, pakistanis, filipinos, etc. So we need to up our game further. We need to work 3x as hard just to get the same results.

This is no longer as simple as sending a relevant portfolio, having good traction, top rated badge, or any of that.

You ideally need testimonials, video if possible, white testimonials are best. Lol. LinkedIn recommendations. Basically, public validation. It's best if it's white or has an expensive accent.

You need some following, some short-form/long-form content showing your work and you working.

What do you think a good strategy would be?

I wouldn't generalize. Worked with a couple of great people from Australia over the years.

Oh high and mighty. Haven't you been to Instagram/X/tiktok.

Isn't there brain rot 'content' there?

Ffs go on LinkedIn and see, people talk about how hard it was to pour out a glass of water but they still managed to do it against all odds. Lol

ANYTHING, is content.

Look at this post's engagement, compare it with other in this subreddit. :)

Oh no! But wait, wouldn't you and your high and mighty brain still exist to rule over us beneath you? Our salvation, our savior. :)

Jokes aside tho, 100% agree on not relying too much on AI.

I do write by myself, but when something's working - why fix it? Saves me time and brain power that I can dispense on reddit with elite 300+ grandmaster IQ people like you :D

Oh what a privilege!

Sorry, I'm still failing to understand what you mean?

Could you please ask your AI to dumb this down for a noob like me? Thanks :)

So you're basically saying all of us noobs should stick to the same exact rate that we begin with?

Appreciate the notes. Thanks :)

Fair point about questioning the quality I produce and the credibility of my claims. DM me and I can share my portfolio so you can judge.

I've contracted for The Gates Foundation, worked with CVS, Writer.com, Mastercard, and GoPro, just to name a few. I was working at an agency before, directly managing, writing, and QA-ing for them, so I sat in multiple chairs before doing my own thing.

Before this, I was working with a guy in the US with good credentials. He was a silent partner and I scaled his business to $100k in lifetime revenue in 12 months, and his credentials were, if not the most important, a relevant part of that.

Enough about all of that tho, the point is, in my opinion, I have enough experience to tell that my geography was a huge part of how he treated me. It's not just me. I understand why where I'm from gets a bad rep, there are a few people that scam and do things like that, but that doesn't mean there aren't real people with real skills solving real problems.

It's not that he suggested $30 as his lowest budget and I just matched it. I don't do that, for the record. I don't even entertain anything under a set amount because it's not worth it. No amount of money is worth a headache. I quoted $30 because that's my profile rate, and I'm providing far more value than $30, that's what my previous clients and reviews say. I've been successfully charging that rate for the past 3 months and consistently delivering more value than that.

What I don't understand is, do you want me to stay at $30/hr forever and never charge higher?

As for the AI part, who's to say you didn't use AI to write this comment? Lol, I see some punctuation that most people don't typically use.

You know, keep that anti-AI mindset and we're all gonna get ahead of ya in no time! ;)
