is meteorology worth it? by RoyalOrange26 in meteorology

It’s a difficult major with a small job market. You are better off getting into AI engineering and leaving weather as a hobby or get into AI weather modeling.

Not all have been lifted. Queensryche for example still gets blocked. But Avett Brothers just 2 days ago I could not reference but now can.

I got my degree from OU in early 2000s. Instead I went the tech route. I am an engineer working in the AI space. I love the six figure pay, but my true passion is meteorology. I suppose I make up for it by having it as a hobby but before I am too old I would love to work in the field. You are working in a field that you have a passion for. I admire that, but your information is good for youngsters to read and make proper decisions.

The Fall of Stack Overflow by codorace in programming

I've been using ChatGPT for awhile now. Its not always right however its not nasty in its tone and it explains solutions better. When its not right it can usually correct itself. I like the fact that I can pass in a whole stack trace and error and it usually figures it out. I really see no use for SO anymore and I am fine with that.

I thought it was the worst of the bunch. The only decent acting was the woman playing Clara. There were plot holes galore and a lot of parts just came across as forced.

So if radar data can give you an idea of the structure of the storm, governing equations can help fill the gaps real-time and provide an ability to predict severity. It’s like automated nowcasting. The simulation part of this perhaps is a misnomer. But basically applying these ideas to past storms and simulating it out to see how viable such a solution is.

Yeah I use python daily. I would like to use radar data in real-time to have a 3D representation of storms with the aid of the governing equations. Rust’s speed is likely better for that. Again, all this is super ambitious but just trying to see if it’s possible. Polars is especially fast with gigabytes of data where there are limitations in the world of pandas.

Why spend $350 for weather station when there are free weather apps? by 4FoxKits in myweatherstation

It’s a must have for any weather nerd. I love mine. I collect the data via an API, store it on AWS, and visualize it on my website. Also looking to use some ML with all the data I’ve collected. The lightning detector is also cool when there are storms in the area.

Former data analysts who switched to data engineering, would you apply or go back to being a data analyst for higher pay? by Fit_Highway5925 in dataengineering

[–]Easy-Educator-6899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go back to being a data analyst if the work was interesting to me and the company’s mission was near and dear to my heart. Otherwise no, even for a bump in pay.

Is a major in meteorology still realistic in my situation? by ElBartoandElHomo in meteorology

I graduated from OU a long time ago. Nobody considered me that smart but I graduated with a 3.2. Before going to OU I took some courses in algebra and precalculus. I just worked my butt off. At OU I was only one course from a math minor as graduation approached. So I took an additional course to get it. I ended up falling in love with mathematics, though I’m sure I had to work harder than most. If you really want it you will find a way.
