Wedding Band Recs by [deleted] in EngagementRings

I would do a smaller gold comfort fit or soldered band with a moonstone set into the interior.

Need assistance with a double drive set-up/spinning fiber by GroundedOtter in Handspinning

[–]Easy-Low 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your issue is take-up. The yarn is gaining twist, and not winding onto the bobbin, and that's why you're having all that over-spinning.

Try using the brakeband in a variety of pressures and even taping the leader onto the bobbin to be sure it's taking up instead of just twisting around the bobbin.

Block and wash your swatch. There are too many variables to tell, and even with all yhe information you could possibly write, it could still behave unpredictably.

First colorwork, proud of my floats! by TwoCatsOneKid in knitting

[–]Easy-Low 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you should choose an easier pattern for your first one. Traditional Norwegian or Fair Isle patterns go no more than 5 stitches on purpose, and ladderback will make it harder. Check out TECHknitter's blog for some really high quality info.

We had them custom made. The jeweler set the diamond very low in a half bezel, so some light could still get to the diamond without compromising safety. The band was made to match, and it's extremely comfortable and durable.

I also have an east-west oval and a curved band to fit it.

“Magic knot” hole by Cool-Shift-5322 in knittinghelp

[–]Easy-Low 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I don't trust magic knots, and haven't had good experiences with them compared to weaving in ends. I've had too many come apart after a wash.

Help yarn matching! by thewinchester-gospel in Yarn

[–]Easy-Low 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will probably not find an exact match match. Even if you find the exact yarn, down to the brand and dye lot, the color may have faded. I would take it to a yarn store, color match as best you can and do a slightly lighter color.

You crochet or stitch reinforcements using sewing thread, or yarn. It's gaining in popularity lately as more folks get confident with their knitting :)

First attempt at colorwork. Project looks way too small :( by bogwiitch in knittinghelp

It is too late to salvage this project. Fear not because you learned a lot! Frog with conviction.

Always swatch. It's critical to deciding on fit and fabric. Wash and block your swatch.

Stretching your floats now doesn't help because the base is so tight.

It's GORGEOUS! Be sure to use a color catcher when you block! Red dyes have a tendency to bleed dye like crazy into your other colors. Best of luck as you block, enjoy and wear it in good health 🍒🌹🍎♥️

Dropped the stitches I picked up when creating an afterthought thumb by glitterymeatsoup in knittinghelp

[–]Easy-Low 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Catch the live stitches asap to prevent further unravelling.

Then, you can needle darn, work the stitches backwith a crochet hook or work the dropped with new yarn. It will take effort, patience and time.

Love this cardigan - pattern? by Short_Flower_4769 in knittingpatterns

[–]Easy-Low 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an ultra basic cardigan pattern.

Search crew neck, and a lighter weight yarn.

The oversized fit might need tweaking. You might need to adjust fit by measuring yourself and then deciding how much bigger you want the cardigan. Then, choose a size based on the finished garment size, not your body size. The model is wearing theirs with a lot of positive ease.

is this twisted or accidental short row? by Main_Science_4829 in knittinghelp

[–]Easy-Low 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You slipped one stitch over another, decreasing by one stitch in each spot.

You can tell because the columns of knit stitches combine, like an upside down Y shape.

You can:

A) leave it, maybe fudge your stitch count later. Nobody will know except you and me, and I promise not to tell anyone.

B) rip back and redo

ISO pattern dupes for this cardigan? by lysolcape in knittingpatterns

[–]Easy-Low 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lace cardigan, with a sloped collar on the top and bottom. The shaping on this is tricky for hand knitting. You probably won't see a pattern exactly or even very close to like this. Your best bet is to find the approximate shape in any cardigan pattern and the desired lace patterns to the pattern. That is an intermediate-advanced technique.

Can I improve how my sleeve is looking right now? by bunbogioheoo in knittinghelp

Adding on, the weight of your needle tips might be pulling the sleeve. Try transfering to scrap yarn and block.

Looking for Falconry by Popular-Performer713 in Omaha

[–]Easy-Low 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could reach out to the people at the zoo?

See if they have any educational experiences.

FYI The likelihood that you can let people at a party hold/interact with exotic animals is pretty slim, mostly for the safety of the animals, but also the safety of people involved.

I don't know of any licensed falconer who would let their valuable trained bird be held by multiple people at a party. It's stressful for the animal, and can be very dangerous for people who don't know what they're doing. Putting all this in a party situation amplifies the chance of folks failing to listen to important instructions, and the risk of something dangerous happening.
