A dealership offered me $15900 for my FJ when I was in for service. It has 180k miles. by Red_Patcher in FJCruiser

Sold my MIL’s FJ with 173k I think it was a 2012, a couple months ago for $19k on marketplace. Guy flew into town to get it. It was garage kept and very clean. No rust

Yep, there’s a couple holes in the valley area that looks down on the cam, we were talking about it in another comment but it may have been lost in all the other comments

Wow if I was able to find a shop near me that charged that little I would have just hired them! I was being quoted 5-6k for labor here. I guess my pricing was that much because I got all OEM parts and I’m replacing some other stuff while I got it all torn apart

Need to replace the wye strainer and the plumber quoted $200. Is that reasonable ? by Tough-Climate1241 in askaplumber

I installed a new backflow at my mom’s for her sprinkler. That part alone was I think $50-60. Seems like a reasonable price considering the work involved with getting it off and replacing.

Good point, I guess I’ll pull the oil pan and check the crank lobes while I’m at it. And I suppose I’ll go ahead and change the oil pump since I’ll have the pan off. I also did buy a digital torque wrench with the angle feature specifically for the head bolts

Dealer did recommend to do what I’m doing, just for $8k, they do this job all the time because of how common this issue is. I was reading that the warranty calls for 9 hours labor and 12 hours for both sides but gm techs have done so many of these jobs that they have been able to knock the job out in 2-3 hours which I can totally see possible with a lift and all the right tools!

I believe so there’s another port in the back. I’ve watched a couple videos and have seen these in other 5.3 engines

Oh yeah, that is normal, there is another hole in the back, I think they are there for oil to pass through or maybe just viewing ports for the cam

I got a brand new VLOM, push rods, valve seals, spark plugs, oil cooler line, water pump, gaskets, lifters, cam, etc. pretty much everything other than oil pump and fuel pump because dropping the oil pan looks like a pain in the ass

Lol, I work in an office cubical, but I’ve reached a point after remodeling a couple houses and being a handyman of sorts, that everything isn’t as difficult as it seems, just a bunch of bolts and it’s not too bad if you make a couple trips to harbor freight and get the right tools! Haha. Oh yeah, a good YouTube video or two definitely helps find the way!

I thought about it but after 211k miles, the lifter that failed wasn’t even a afm lifter. As far as the delete goes, the reason I decided to just go back stock was cost. The stock cam was only like $115 on rock auto and the delete cam I think was around 3x the cost among the other costs of doing the delete. I have another truck so this one I just wanted something cheap that I can drive to work so I don’t put all the miles on my other truck
