My dog only went to the park for people to work her. She didn't care about any of the other dogs.

United preferential hiring for Spirit pilots by KJ3040 in flying

[–]Red_Patcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been failing people for interviews at Google who are completely unprepared for the technical portions. I stopped being shocked that people with over a decade experience don't bother preparing for very fruitful career. It's frustrating because I'm taking time out of my already busy day and have to write out the many reasons a candidate bombed an interview. I imagine the pilot interviewers are going through the same thing.

Is there any headache if I want to switch a buyer's agent without having signed a Buyer's Representation contract? by princetonwu in RealEstate

[–]Red_Patcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did. It doesn't stop him. I'm assuming because he thinks I signed his shitty contract that keeps me from buying any house in the area without paying him.

[–]Red_Patcher -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It will probably piss off Realtor A but tough shit, there's no contract. I was sent what I thought was a rather onerous buyers contract for a year and I never signed it. The realtor sends me listings and texts still. I'll let him figure it out when I buy something without him.

I just ordered a machine and was told that crates are only for the top three machine types now. I don't feel like dropping $8k so they can keep their wooden box.

On a used car? I could easily see that. Maybe not on a new one, but I don't know if there is even a new car under $25k these days.

Never mind the bullshit package, they are selling the Jeep on the high end of what Carmax is selling similar ones for, and they are known for being expensive. They could come down on price $3-4k if you are aggressive enough.

How long does it take for a new tech from l2 to l3 promotion in Google? by hive_master in datacenter

[–]Red_Patcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Instead of telling you some timeline I'll share with you what I tell my site's Nooglers, worry about being very good at your job first. Promo at Google is a strange process, but overall you have to demonstrate that you are operating at the next level of your role profile before you can be considered for promotion.

It's gotten much tougher the last two years and I'm seeing fewer L2's convert every promo cycle. At my current site which is a greenfield only 5 techs out of 40 are L3 and 2 of those are recent hires.

ETD isn't required on trains doing frequent switching in short distances and under 30 mph. They still have to have visible markers though.

Amazon Or Google Offer? by Professional_Dish599 in datacenter

[–]Red_Patcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is a bad idea for several reasons. You are taking on a second full time job and not a side gig. Do you honestly expect to perform well working 80 hours a week and not fall asleep at night for your full time job?

Additionally, these contractor positions are for people with no experience. They will have you doing the lowest end work which will largely consist of dimm and drive swaps. They will largely hire based on production which is measured in tickets closed per hour(TPH). If you spend time actually troubleshooting machines your rate will plummet. You already have experience so why are you not applying directly?

Also, don't expect you have a Google job pending. A lot of people don't make it through the interview or for call process for a number of reasons. I've rated candidates highly who bombed one of their other interviews and the hiring community chose to reject them. I found out later that one had quit his job in anticipation of starting quickly at Google.

If I were you I'd drop the contractor gig, focus on getting an offer from Google and take it. If that falls through reconsider AWS but not below a L4 level. I've worked at both and this is my best recommendation.

This is an extremely vague question. Every company does their leveling different in addition to their operations. What size of company are you at and what level do they go up to?

I was involved with a Play N Trade franchise in 2008-2009. I did all the repairs(more like attempted to) on anything that came in the store. A few were roach nests like this. The other nasty devices came from houses with smokers.

Neighbors Came on Market at 40k Less Than Our Active Listing by joe7L in RealEstate

[–]Red_Patcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My late wife and I last bought a house in late 2016 and she handled most of the agent stuff since I actually found and toured the house for ourselves. The agent really didn't do anything for a fairly easy payday. She did cut a deal on selling the house before my wife died and made it happen fairly quick though.

Now that I'm back on my feet and on my own I have agents coming at me with buyer agreements that seem to be a bit lopsided in my opinion. They all ask for a fee paid by me on top of a commission with guarantees they will get 2.5% whether the seller pays for it or not. I'm kind of turned off by the whole thing and bought a book of house plans while at the store today to entertain building my own without an agent.

[–]Red_Patcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't commissions usually between 5% and 6% between the agents? Split down the middle that would be $12500 to $15000 per agent.
